ACCBio is really the way to go.
Call them and arrange to overnite to them. They are good at turning machines around in one day.
That's the upside.
The down side it that the cost might be $200 if you include shipping.
If you lived within 100 miles of me, I'd loan you one of my 750's but, sadly, Buffalo is more than 100 miles from South Carolina.
At 100 miles or less, I would deliver.
And, no, they are not for sale.

That can cause more damage than trying to fit a pencil in there. Better to send it out for repair.
why I'm arguing with someone who doesn't even bother to sign up to make snarky comments, I don't know.

but given that an sd card slot is half the width of a pencil and the contacts are a good inch inside that slot,

I'd be willing to bet that trying to wedge a pencil in there would do far more damage.

You have obviously never repaired any electronic boards or equipment.

coils?

there's not much in a circuit powered by 12v that's very dangerous, unless you're talking about a hv generator like a stun gun.

CPAPXpress, my very good DME, has called back.

They're happy to look at the machine tomorrow and assess it. If Kaa does need to go back to PR for repairs (which I think will be the recommended route), CPAPXpress will work on finding me a loaner BiPAP to use in the meantime. The manager thinks it will take them only 2 or 3 days to find the loaner.

Since the problem does not affect how the machine works, the plan right now is:
  • Bring the machine in tomorrow and let them document the problem for whatever paperwork has to be filed. And I bring the Kaa back home after they see him.
  • CPAPXpress will work on finding me a loaner BiPAP, and I'll continue using my current Kaa and just live with losing the wave flow and doing what I can to get the rest of the daily data (and probably trying the more benign pencil eraser on the card suggestion, but nothing else)
  • When CPAPXpress locates a loaner BiPAP, I'll bring my Kaa in for the (temporary) swap while they send Kaa in for an estimate and (most likely) repairs
  • When Kaa is shipped back to them, I return the loaner and get Kaa back
This works for me since it means I don't have to face even one or two nights without Kaa. Because as much as I dislike sleeping with Kaa, I don't sleep any better without him. And I wake up with a heck of a lot of hand and foot pain that I don't need right now when I sleep without Kaa.

So I now invite all of y'all to a new guessing game: How much will the estimate for the repairs be?

If the problem is not a manufacturing defect, the repairs might be as high as $150.
If it is a manufacturing defect, the repair might be $0.

Kaa has coils? Who'd have thunk?

AH! I see now, you speak in opposites!

apropos of fixing sd card slots, I did recently disassemble my thinkpad t61p and repaired it's non functional sd card slot, because I got tired of using a usb reader to slurp up my data for sleepyhead. my card slot was mainly inhabited by dust bunnies, it turned out, once I shooed them off, it worked fine.

but, i guess that doesn't count.

When they send it in make sure they do a firmware update on it.

The coils are fairly harmless, but watch out for the fangs!

Robysue,

With that kind of arrangement for a loaner machine with your local DME, I would definitely try to get the system looked at by ACCBio services.
They will be able to repair it and also load in the current firmware at the same time. Perhaps your DME can make those arrangements for you.

DME may only be willing to help out with the loaner machine if the repair goes through them---as in I give them my machine and they send it to whoever, whom I presume is PR.
