Lol, well Den I'll give you that -- but

(1) not all men are so good at interpreting women's signals (nor are women always on the mark about men's), and
(2) there's also projection...

She may of not said anything but she "preferred" that he "not use it". I believe that says it all.

Those were his words, not hers -- so far as we know anyway. Maybe he'll come back and clarify.
And if the wife is having a problem accepting his CPAP maybe we could help educate and support both of 'em.

Talk with your wife and ask her what she thinks about the cpap? Is it more pleasant for her now that you are not snoring? Is the air flow from the exhaust hose bothering her at all? How does she feel about sleeping next to a man with a hose strapped to his face?
Tell her how you feel about it: do you feel dorky? Is it helping you sleep better? Feel better?

One positive note we've discussed on this board before: SOME men have erectile difficulties due to sleep apnea's side effects. This often improves with cpap use.

Yes, I haven't found that most men can interpret the signals from women...not me, anyways. Much better to get an actual statement of feelings than to try to read the mind of someone else, especially someone who doesn't think the same way that I do *smile*. There are probably some men that can do this, but I don't think that most can, although I agree that most think that they can.

On the original subject, though, if I talked it over with my wife, and she genuinely felt that whether I looked dorky while I was sleeping mattered, I would talk about the risks. And if she still thought that looking cool at night was more important than my health, then I would ignore that, and just do what I know is the right thing to do for my health (and her long term happiness, hopefully). I think that it's very likely that she would come around over time, as she saw how this was helping my health.

On the other hand, if she wants me to not use cpap and raise my life insurance benefit, then that might give me other thoughts *smile*.

Who looks attractive when they are sleeping anyway? When I close my eyes and cuddle up next to my hubby he looks as handsome as the day we married. With my eyes open not so much. I bet he feels the same way.

You could do what my aunt did...went with her husband to a doc appt...and things went south for him. He denied having sleep apnea, while she stood behind him nodding her head. Now they BOTH look like nighttime dorks.

Cancel your life insurance!
You are obviously worth more to her dead--that can be fixed.
Live, thrive, and re-wife.

So Jim, are you just assuming she prefers that you don't use your CPAP? Are you figuring that because you think you look dorky that she thinks so too and is put off by it?

Heck, we all know we look dorky in our CPAP getup, and our spouses/partners know too. That doesn't necessarily mean they're unsupportive of our using the therapy.

Innocent until proven guilty, guys?

Is that what she thinks? Or what you think?

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the very obvious point yet that you will be using the mask in the dark. So what does it matter how it looks?

I was nervous about sharing a hotel room with others as I knew it would look dorky. At home, I only share a bed with the cats, and they don't care.

Anyway, the first time I shared a hotel room with somebody else, they commented on how quiet the machine was. They were impressed. And nobody yelled at me for snoring. So, I figure there was no reason to be embarrassed. Snoring was definitely more embarrassing than the mask and machine.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

The fact that you are interpreting her reaction to your Cpap the way you are does not indicate a supportive spouse and for U I am sorry about that. Apnea is hard enough to deal with.
U also commmented on how supportive you felt everyone from the site was.

Hope your wife gets educated to Cpap. It will make your jouney through hose-head land so much easier.
