What happened??? I was so happy.

Post by idahogal » Fri Jun 02, 2006 8:39 pm

The last week or so I have been feeling just exactly like I did pre cpap. I was doing so well with my Aura and trying to adapt to the CL2 mask and sleeping like a baby. No more Ambien, no more ibuprofen, my back has not hurt in months, no more tickle in the back of my throat at night. The BAM!!! like a ton of bricks I feel like I did before treatment. Nothing has changed. I still have the same rituals. Turn on my humidifier to pre heat, Wash my face, Ky my nose, polident strip my lips, put on my "crown" as my husband calls my mask and out like a light. Now I can't get a good nights rest even WITH ambien or ibuprofen and I feel terrible. I don't wake up rested at all. As soon as I wake up I want to go right back to sleep. I have increased my pressure from 12 to 13 to see if that would help and it has not changed a thing. As far as I can tell without a smartcard, I am not leaking at night. OH! The one night I tried the CL2 for the first time I woke up in the morning SNORING with the mask on. How can I snore with the mask on??? I since have gone back to the Aura in hopes of getting some good quality sleep. Does anyone know what the heck is happening here and how to fix it FAST so I don't have to go through one more day feeling pre pap? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Not a problem for ME! I still do snore SOME......but much less in the last few months since I bumped up my pressure from 10 to 12. I could never correlate my snoring with my AHI averages (as far as a "sleep disturbance"), other than that when I used to have higher snore indexes, my AHI was usually lower.....go figure..... As of this morning, my SI for the last seven nights was 3.3 ......before I bumped up my pressure (in my first 10 months), it was probably close to 10 times that......but I still slept well and felt pretty good.

Are you still having that pre-CPAP feeling? It might just be a temporary thing or it might be that you need to bump up your pressure a little more until those feelings pass. You have the Pro 2, don't you? If you do, it might be worthwhile investing in the software and reader.....that way you'll be able to get a better idea of what's going on.

Good luck,

Den

This has been my experience with the Headrest/Aura particularly and to a lesser degree with the CL2. I have begun to suspect inadequate CO2 clearance, particularly on the Headrest. I have no evidence other than an intuitive sense of "what else could it be?". No leaks, good AHI so?????? It has been frustrating because the Headrest is so comfortable. I do not feel like this when I use the Swift.

Thanks. I don't have the pro verision. I have the plus version of the remstar. I may try changing masks and see what happens. I may try my NAll and see if that helps at all and if it does I will at least know it is the mask and not something else. If it is not the mask then I will try pushing up the pressure a little more. I was set for 12-14 and I am currently on 13 so one more and I can still be within the set limits. I will also use the pantyhose on the CL2 and see if that helps at all.

I'm not sure why I didn't think to ask these questions before.....

Are you taping/sealing your mouth? Have you ruled out mouth leakage?

THAT could account for your feelings of pre-CPAP.

Den, yes, I am using the polident strips which work great. I am not waking up dry or anything and I test and re test the seal before I go to sleep and after I wake up. That was a great thought though. Thanks

I guess I somehow missed that part in your initial post (I guess my eyes were looking for the word "tape").....but caught it just now when I re-read it..... Please keep us informed on your progress.

Idahogal,

I know that for me, the difference in ONE lousy cm of pressure is the difference between me snoring or not. However, as far as how you're feeling, it may have absolutely nothing at all to do with your treatment. I find there are many times when I feel great and then I have a run of feeling depleted and not as great as I had been.

Give it some time. Or if you feel you may have some symptoms that would cause it, go see your doctor and see if perhaps you might have something, such as anemia, that might be the cause of how you're feeling.

Just do yourself a favor and DO NOT GIVE UP! Just like everything else in life, our therapy and how we feel goes in cycles. Sometimes it's up and sometimes it's down, but the trick is to stick with it no matter what.

I wish you the best. I hope you suddenly do a reverse and go back to feeling well.

Filters in the machine can be clogged, allergens & allergies. I wouldn't go switching things around too much, you will have some bad nights every now and then.

Lori, thanks yes it is spring here and maybe it has something to do with allergies. I just want my cpap euphoria back...LOL . I wont give up. I am a hardcore forever cpaper now.

Guest,

I realized this morning that I have not cleaned and changed my filters in 3 weeks so I got every thing out and washed it and let it dry today. Thank you for the insight.

...And could you have a pet who punctured a hose (main hose, or mask hose)?

Ok, here is an update. I may be on to something. I cleaned and changed my filters yesterday along with everything else. I decided to try irrigating my sinuses just because tis the season. I put on my polident strips (for my lips not my teeth), used the Ayr get I purchased yesterday, and put my CL2 on. Off to sleep I went in a hurry. Not even enough time to get through one commercial of my favorite program on tv. I woke up this morning due to a really bizzare sound. I WAS SNORING AGAIN!!!! I feel great today but dang it.. I know if I snore I am not getting all I need from cpap. So I guess my next questions is, Is it ok to crank up the machine beyond what the prescription states if I do it 1cm at a time? And if it is ok to crank it up then when does it become "too much". I know that when I reach a place where I stop snoring that I should stop increasing the pressure but what If I am at 13cm now and don't stop snoring until 20???? Any ideas?

Yep!......Don't worry about your snoring.

It's not a sleep disturbance issue like apneas and hypopneas. To quote my doctor (GP/PCP)....."If you're snoring, you're breathing."
You've confirmed that your mouth is sealed, so it's a "nasal" snore.....just NOISE. Since you don't have a machine and the software to tell you, you have to go by how you feel......and you said you felt "great today".

That being said, you could try upping your pressure 1 cm. at a time....for a few days to a week at a time.

Best wishes,

Den

Idahogal,

My thought is, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. You're back to feeling great again? Walk away, don't look back and be happy. I'm happy for you!
