In the interests of Science, I felt this needed a further test.

Only hint of real noise is if I am breathing HEAVY -- sometimes when getting into bed or trying to get comfortable if I breath heavily there is a little bit of noise, nothing on the order of Darth Vader.

I experimented with various breaths and it was when the air was rushing fast (likely overwhelming the exhaust).

Otherwise mine is quite and and reduced volume/speed it goes virtually silent.

Interesting! In SH, what are your tidal volume numbers like? His are avg of 469.4 (for last night, but that's right in a normal range for him, although a touch higher than some nights), and 90% number of 560. The numbers are somewhat higher than average at the beginning of the night, but I'd expect that, since he's awake. That's the pattern every night, and other nights are actually usually even higher than last night at the beginning.

No wonder my breathing makes a LITTLE noise at max

I am a big guy not particularly tall but with a large chest and years practicing (waking) breathing for both commercial diving and martial arts (primarily Systema, or Russian Martial Arts, lately.)

BTW, that Median is right at normal (500) for a healthy young adult, awake and at rest. (I am 61).

Hmmm...yeah, so similar numbers, with his even a bit lower if anything. Weird! We'll definitely have to check out all the connections and everything.

I haven't been able to sleep facing my wife since the Mirage Activa 7 years ago. I've used every Resmed Pillows mask except the woeful, noisy Swift II.

I loved the Swift LX when it came out, Loved the FX as well - just a PITA with the air venting on my wife.

Last night with the AirFit and I'm sold. I don't even know how it vents any air but it worked great and I was able to face my wife without her burying herself in the covers!!

Congrats on finding such a great mask. I feel like I've been reborn, and it's probably from getting a lot more air with this mask--that's all I can figure.

So I just downloaded the data.

All ZERO's - zero AHI, zero leaks. My max pressure was also lower than usual (11.8 instead of 14.. Mind you I always had very good stats with the FX and the LX or LT or whatever the hell it was too. Just not blowing air on my wife!!

I haven't checked my sleep reports in months. I'm in a "lazy" phase and just go on how I feel. I get too "depressed" when I see an apnea on the report, so I avoid it all together and just go on how I feel. And I feel great, since switching to the AirFit. I can't back it up with sleep report facts right now....I'm still in my "lazy" phase.

My wife's hearing is a little impaired, but she heard me snoring loud enough to be awakened, talks with me, and watches TV (a touch loud) without hearing aids.

She has yet to hear the machine or my breathing through the mask.

I have told her that some people find these things to be loud and she just doesn't "get it".

Also, no air has hit here yet with the P10.

Heck it doesn't hit me either.

I seriously have trouble figuring out if the thing is even "on" at a pressure of 11-12. I don't hear it and I don't feel like it is pushing air down my throat (unless I open my tongue at the back of my throat and let my mouth fill or leak.)

So far, its been one night and I think the mask is great. It's very comfortable and quiet. I've used the Swift FX for a number of years and was very happy with it. I see two notable improvements over the Swift FX. Of course, the quiet vent and it stays sealed when I turn my head. Very happy so far. Now comes the test of time.

HerbM - up for some more science? Do you have a smartphone? I think tonight I'm going to grab an app that measures sound levels, and check out what his different masks are compared to each other...see if we're just perceiving the sound differently. I'm quite curious now. If you've got something that could do that as well, I'd love to compare! (Even best if we could use the same app, for consistency, but that would depend on type of phone, etc...)

I just checked the data card and I found almost no leaks with the P10. That's impressive. The fact that I can turn my head without it becoming dislodged is a real advantage.

I tried the p10 one night this week, just felt like the headgear was much to tight and pulled the pillows to far into my nose. Usually I use the swift fx and keep it pretty loose. Didn't work for me. If they put a fx like headgear on the airfit I would try again.

Yes to smartphone. Maybe I will borrow my wifes if you find something (free) to run on an Android (would be best if we use same phone/app as possible).

The reason to borrow my wife's is because mine is being used each night to find out when I am sleeping and awake with Sleep Time (the one with the orange, rounded-rectangle clock face icon.)

Alright, I tried a handful and "Sound Measuring Instrument" by Three and nine seemed to give me the most realistic/consistent reading in a fairly quiet room (for calibration). So what I'll try is this. When we go to bed, I'll use it just in the room and get a 30 second average, as a baseline. Then I'll get a 30 second average of it with him using the mask, with the mic pointing towards the mask, 3 inches away from the exhaust port. (And I'm going to try this for each mask, as my comparison.) It'll be easier for me to compare each of his to each other than mine to yours, given the variables, but hey....pseudoscience!
