You takes your choice - you can go to the all sweetness and light Yahoo moderated forum where a post takes 48 hours to be allowed on and no information is allowed to be posted or you can come here and get what you need to control your own therapy warts and all.

Many people stay with the forum after their therapy works because it is a fun forum. Yes there are some off topic threads and some people are a bit nasty and sleep deprived or in furious denial or blaming their spousal for "violating " them with their xpap therapy. And you know what, these people have just as much right to come here and blow off steam as the Polyannas, the Goody Twoshoes and Peter Pans plus the Twinkle toes is allowed to say what they think about the spouses.

Every couple of months the Twinkle Toes complain about the off topic threads, the lack of moderation and the fact that the forum is not carefully segregated into Masks, machines, newbies, technical people, software and such and the old timers explain to them that the forum would die a quick death under those restrictions.

None of the above is the issue or what the OP is suggesting. The OP is suggesting we don't immediately jump on people and decide he or she is a troll. To be sensitive and answer their questions (or, don't respond) is what I believe he is saying.

Who are we to be so quick to judge who is a troll or who isn't. You're right BS... this is not a moderated forum, even more of a reason why we shouldn't jump down someone's throat until we are sure there is a reason to. If the person is indeed a troll, we'll know soon enough.

Were you thinking of this thread? (29 pages)

Title of thread: "Let's clear up some misinformation"

http : // www . cpaptalk . com/viewtopic . php?f=1&t=73476

After you spend enough years on the forum, you get to see "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". In theory, it's nice to be nice, but some posters can wear out their welcome in a hurry. Virtually EVERY question has been answered on this forum......in many cases, hundreds or thousands of times. Too many people don't bother to use the Search function. Some people don't answer questions when they're asked......which would help to try to solve their problems sooner. Some don't bother to offer up hardly any information about their therapy.......either initially or when asked. Many don't fill out their equipment profiles, provide pressure settings, humidifier settings, etc., etc.

One of my thoughts about the people complaining about a few snarky remarks would be to have THEM be the "Welcome Wagon" for the forum.......welcoming new users and start answering questions. After all, at one point, we were ALL in that boat. This was all new to us. The best way to learn is to start answering questions.

Den (trying to be "nice" as much as possible)

Den,

There is a difference between being snarky and just plain rude in my opinion which by the way I have never seen you be towards posters. I have seen you understandably get irritated when folks didn't provide information that you had asked for several times.

By the way, I do remember that thread you referenced above. That was good for alot of laughs regarding the DME person who started the thread. Ok, now who is being negative?

I am going to put Bevinck on my ignore list b/c he started to make too much noise and seams to be a bully, sort of another self appointed Moderator.

Den Wulfman, is not completely clean either b/c he stopped showing his registration years ago, and he is sort of coming out of left field, and placing a dot in his posts.

We need Jeff, from Brooklyn, in here, to organize things and make a speech.

Besides, since when Canadians suppose to teach Americans about Health Care issues.

Well, as someone many here consider a troll, I have this to say to you. Being a troll is a matter of perspective. One man's troll may be another man's information jackpot. Just because someone is argumentative and uses the F word a lot, does not automatically equate to "troll."

Also, its not being "negative" or "critical" to bash an economic philosphy and practice (socialism) that has been proven to restrict individualism and to be less than stellar in effectiveness.

Suggesting (strongly I might add) that "you should lose a lot of weight and your OSA might get a whole lot better" is NOT "being negative or critical!!!"

And just because someone posts some joke posts here and there, does not mean they are a "troll."

IMO, a true troll on this particularly forum would be someone who truly hates CPAP and comes here to just bash CPAP and/or to just interrupt this forum from intelligently discussing CPAP issues.

Just to clarify for you, my appeal was not addressing so-called "trolls" and how to identify them. I am specifically concerned about several negative responses I have seen from forum members towards new people asking questions. In my mind, whether or not that newbie was called a troll is moot, I am appealing to a gentleness and respect for all newbies, no matter how we feel about their questions or responses. As was discussed above, I think general consensus here is that OT threads are a bit of a free game on "passion", but CPAP related questions need to be handled respectfully, no matter our feelings on the questions asked.

A point well-taken, IMHO.

Let's face it...this was a dumb post to begin with...it's only purpose was to stir up controversy. Maybe we should put bavinck, penuel (avi) and suddenlywornout on our "ignore" list. Let's just ignore this post!

Are you saying that people requesting that folks be civil to each other are dumb? Personally, I thought it was a pretty smart idea. So go ahead LSAT and put me on your dumb list. I would consider it badge of honor coming from you.

On the very day I received my Bipap ASV, someone posted a message to the list saying, "Attention, whiners, complainers, quitters..."

This was my reply.
