Maybe the OP needs to move to a state with pro medical marijuana laws. Bet a cpap machine could be modified into one heck of a bong. Did I say that out loud? 30 years ago I might have put that toward the top of my "to do" list but with all the ailments I now have just driving by someone smoking a cigarette scares me. Guess I am fixing to find out how tight the moderators turn the screws in here. If my post offends anyone it really was meant in jest. The idea made me laugh out loud so could not resist sharing it.

If you search the forum you will find several threads on the effect of MJ including several members who use it medically.

H2O2 will produce Ozone if used in the humidifier. Ozone is also a lung irritant. Because Hydrogen peroxide is so good at dissolving things, it will oxidise the tank as well as any germs it might come in contact. To have it disinfect the tank, the concentration has to be high enough to damage all bacteria and at that level, the vapour will do bad things to lungs and nasal passages.

H2O2 works well in pools because people aren't breathing much of it and it is killing specific types of germs that happen to be quite happy living in pools until they find a human as a new home. Those bugs are in the middle of their feeding and reproducing cycle which makes them far more susceptible to chemicals than say a fungal spore that happens to be in distilled water.

Lots of responses here, but virtually none that display any understanding of why someone would want to do such a thing.

1 - As far as why, this would be to obtain an easy and convenient way to experience hydrogen peroxide therapy. You can do a search on 'Bill Munro Peroxide' and get an interesting 1st hand experience with this. Saved his life, and he inhaled a peroxide mist several times daily for months (years now).

2 - Food Grade - Yes there is a food grade Hydrogen Peroxide and there is NOT a food grade bleach. Food grade Hydrogen Peroxide is 35% pure H2O2 plus 65% distilled water. There are no contaminents or chemical stabilizers in the Food Grad version. At 35% purity it is extremely caustic and great care must be taken of spills etc. There are a number of other types of hydrogen peroxide with the most common being the typical 3% solution found in drugstores for cleansing wounds and scrapes etc.

3 - Therapeutic value. Do some research and you'll discover that our body's white blood cells fight disease by dispensing hydrogen peroxide. Germs are helpless against it. Of course the white blood cells only produce a tiny amount. It's very effective stuff so you don't need much. Sometimes our immune system isn't up to the task and ramping things up to the next level by ingesting a highly dilute amount of H2O2 can provide amazing results.

4 - Toxicity. 3% strength peroxide as found in drug stores is very caustic and dangerous to ingest. Only a fool or the ignorant would do that. In smaller concentrations it is not dangerous and can be ingested safely. The trick is to get enough to actually improve health without getting too much and harming health. There are many substances that are lethal or very dangerous in high doses, but harmless or beneficial in small doses. A partial list includes table salt, oxygen, water, cinnamon, peppermint oil, and so on.

Whether a CPAP machine would be damaged by low-dose peroxide is unknown to me, so I don't know whether it is a good idea or a bad one. It is clear to me, that I can not get an authoritative and/or trustworthy answer to that question at this board, but that's ok.

Well, the so-called quack-watcher is himself a quack, but I don't think I'd go for the H2O2 except in a pool as was mentioned.

Just for the newbies who may stumble on to this thread:

NEVER, EVER, add anything to your humidifier except water--preferably distilled water.

If someone wants to be stupid, then so be it, but it is NEVER safe to add things to your humidifier water--remember you are giving it a direct route to your lungs.

Right. Mind you, I wasn't arguing with not to put H2O2 in the humidifier.... merely the source of the particular data is, in my opinion, less than credible.

What makes you say Dr. Barrett is a quack? I've never heard this criticism.

I have been adding H2O2 to my CPAP for about 6 months and I am still here and feel better than I have ever felt in years. Most of these responses here are from very uninformed people who know nothing about the many healthful benefits of Food Grade H2O2. Whether you do or don't add it to your CPAP is up to you but make sure you do the research on it before you use it or slam it's uses.

And you have no idea of what it is doing to your lungs. Provide a peer reviewed academic article on it or shut up.
