Sleepweaver Anew! My 1st impressions...YES!

Post by MrStein » Wed Oct 16, 2013 4:18 pm

I just received my Anew yesterday, and I am very very pleased. I had read all the bad/horrible reviews (and good) at our sponsor.
I figured well, it's mask replacement time, so I would give it a shot. I watched the dvd first as the instructions recommended.
It took me about thirty minutes of back and forth adjusting the top/bottom straps. Once adjusted, I tried it lying down.
A little more back and forth and I acheived the perfect fit. Zero leaks. Total comfort. Best night of sleep since I started CPAP.
I have been using ol' trusty Quattro for the last 3 months after all my attempts at the Hybrid failed. I use a medium Quattro.
I ordered a size regular Anew, and it fits perfect. I know a lot of Anew users are saying it runs large, but that was not my experience.
I highly recommend if you try this mask watch the dvd, and work with it. Once you get it (if), you will love it.

I can hardly wait; but still no idea when I can get one.

My DME is Univita. I ordered mine on 9/25/13, and got it yesterday. They actually sent me a Sleepweaver Advance last week.
I had to talk to about a dozen phone reps to get the order placed correctly. Turns out the model name, Anew is very confusing.
They kept telling me that I was getting a new Sleepweaver mask. It was like a "who's on first" routine.
The last rep I spoke with was actually familiar with the Anew and said they are back ordered in a lot of regions, but they are steadily
producing them. For me, it was certainly worth the wait. Now I just need to find out what the best soap is for these.

When my Anew was new I had to wash it in dish soap to get the fabric softened up enough to seal for me. Now I use Woolite. While I was in the hospital it didn't get washed at all. I know it sounds disgusting but I was not able to wash my mask for 10 days.

Does anyone have any idea what the lifespan is for one of these? I am thinking strongly of buying one, but it will be completely out of pocket and it is pricy. I have been using a nose pillow almost but a few weeks of the 6+ years I have been using CPAP and BiPAP. I had a comfort gel full mask at the beginning, but it was bruising my nose.

From what I can tell about mine, it is well-constructed. The clips are different from the typical resmed clips.
The clips are made from a very durable nylon composite, so they won't break like some users are worried about.
Just takes some getting used to. The instructions with the mask caution against the use of oil based soaps or baby shampoo's.
That tells me that indeed you must wash this mask after every use,
Otherwise, the oils from your own skin could start breaking down the fibers in the interface materials.
I have been using All Free and Clear and it works great. Takes about 5 mins and the mask dries remarkably fast.
I think the mask would hold up for 6 months at least.

Ok, how much did sleepweaver pay you to write this review? The thing is a total piece of crap and not worth ten dollars much less its actual price.

Fabric masks have a different learning curve than conventional silicone masks.
Some say it's "either Nirvana or nerve-wracking". Fabric takes a few days to "break in",
and then a first time user needs to learn how to use it. Some never get there.
Some do not have the patience, or the ability to "ride" this thing in their sleep.
Don't blame the mask; don't blame yourself--some matches were never meant to be.
PS: Neither MrStein nor Circadiance is capable of such deceit.

You say fabric masks, are they any others than Sleep Weaver?

Meh,

You are totally out of line with your comment. I am a little biased since I purchased a mask from him at a great discount in which I received impeccable service and got exactly what was promised.

But I would make the same point even if that hadn't occurred since I know from his prior posts that he has struggled with finding the right mask and was understandably enthusiastic when he found the right one.

I am sorry it hasn't worked for you but that doesn't give you the right to flame someone because it worked for that person.

Nobody paid me anything to write anything. Simply stating my review of the mask.
Not every mask works for everyone. You obviously didn't have a good experience with the Anew. (If you even tried one at all)
How much did ResMed pay you to flame this thread? What equipment do you use? I don't see any listed in your profile.
Or maybe the reason it didn't work for you is because it was designed for the human face, not a dickhead.
Nobody gives 2 sh*ts about your non-constructive opinion. Go play in the street.

MrStein

I agree the Sleepweaver masks are the most comfortable I have used.
and I have used all 4 including the Anew over the past 2 years. The elan is my favorite, just ordered a replacement for my one year old Elan. The Anew is better than any other full face mask I have tried, but it did irritate the bottom of my nose, just above the mustache line. I will use the Anew when my nose is stuffed and I need to mouth breathe. Otherwise the Sleepweaver Elan is my daily mask.

MEH No nobody paid me to write this either.

MrStein, I'm just in awe that you got the full face version to work. It literally leaked from every square inch of it for me. I was so disappointed.

It required a lot ow tweeking to get mine near leak free, but it can be done if you watch the video and adjust ALL the straps.

It makes me think of riding a touchy horse, or stroking a cat with an unknown and traumatic past.
I have had to learn to pay attention even when I'm barely conscious, in order to get my Elan to behave.
Once muscle memory takes over, relaxation is possible. Could this be like Zen?
