I used to get flu shots, but the third year I got one, I had a major reaction that landed me in the Emergency Room, they gave me epinepherin, I had difficulty with breathing and speaking, and had partial paralysis in my face for about a week, and I was told not to get a flu shot again! BTW, I am not allergic to eggs. This was around 1998 or 1999.

Thanks for the reminder. Due to my existing lung issues I'll be getting one. Since I'm dependent on public transportation, I feel it's even more important. If I'd ever had a bad reaction I'm sure I'd be less inclined to want one.

I'll be getting one in a little less than a month at my yearly physical. Better late than never. Sometimes I go and get one about this time at a pharmacy, don't feel like it this year.

Had mine in April this year (before my winter). Have never had a reaction to it. The only one that made me sick was the swine flu H1N1 vaccine.

Never used to worry about having it until I started working in a supermarket, seeing what some people do with their money, and their general hygiene makes me so glad I pushed for hand sanitiser at the registers

Hello and good morning!

I got my FluMist this morning. I really do not like shots. I have gotten the mist the past four years, and the only thing that I get is a bit of itchy & runny nose that day. I can only get the Mist for a few more years, then I have to get the shot after that.

Working at a hospital, I get them the first chance I can, and since I work where I do, they come around and get us. I am grateful because working in the ED, we get to see a LOT of sick peoples coming in and are exposed to so many things.

I recommend it, highly. I have my children get it. I bribe my husband with a dinner date to get his.

I have a couple of food allergies, so as soon as the hives broke out, I went to the Doctor. Doctor gave me a shot and then had me on benadryl for 5 days.. Actual hives lasted about 3 days.

How long did the hives last?

I am going today. I'd be a fool not to get one as I'm on immunosuppressents, and a bunch of my family is flu shot phobic. I will row away from the rock.

One year I got the flu despite getting the flu shot, and then I got pneumonia. It was pretty terrible!

What it taught me was to ALWAYS get the flu shot. That happened to be a year when they missed the strain that ended up causing flu that year. But I was so sick that I want to do everything possible to avoid having the flu again. And I have a better chance of doing that WITH the vaccine than without it.

Meanwhile, I read a lot of Weston A. Price nutrition sites. I like a lot of their info but will not give them a penny of my money because the are virulently (pun intended) anti-vaccine. We have a lot of people (mostly white middle class women who can afford to stay at home with their kids) in our county who reject vaccines for their precious children, and one of the highest rates of infant DEATH from whopping cough in the country.

It is tragic that so many children die because of their parents' foolishness.

I got my shot October 1. It made my arm so sore I could not lift it, gave me a super-sized headache, caused me to break out in hives, set off guillain-barré syndrome, destroyed half my brain cells with mercury, left me infertile and cross-eyed, and then this week I have been home sick with the flu since Sunday.

Next year I will get the shot earlier.

I gave up the flue shot years ago. It ALWAYS gave me the flue. I told the military to either kick me out or leave me alone, I can catch the flue on my own!
Have not been sick a day since, some 20 years ago.

I came across this fforum looking on my phone laying in bed. I got my flu shot around 3 pm today at CVS and by 6 o'clock I was home feeling sick and soon aftewards I had a fever and was dizzy and felt nauseous and moved into bed. I was delirious and felt horrible. About an hour later I got up because I had started having diarrhea vomiting. I am now laying in bed with 102 .5 fever. I hate to be a negative nancy about this, & I have the flu shot three other times in my life, but it will be hard to convince me to do this again. Not sure whether to blame a flu I might have been coming down with before (even thoughI had no symptoms before the shot. Anyone's guess.

I also got my shot yesterday at CVS. I have absolutely nothing to report, not even a sore arm. A few weeks ago, me and my son had symptoms very similar to yours. It lasted about 5-7 days, quite miserable. We thought it was foodborne, from something we had both eaten a few days earlier. Could be a very unfortunate coincidence.
