Re: OT My left leg is huge
I would imagine you will be OK as long as they are monitoring you;
they may want it low rather than high to prevent the clot from moving.
And the soaker hose means they want to try dissolving as much of it as they can with drugs.
They are trying for the least invasive and safest solution--even though waiting can't be any fun at all.
Thank you for keeping us posted. Here's my {{{HUG}}} for you (the others won't be as moist).

Storm..they are probably putting something in your IV to lower your bloodpressure and thin your blood. They moved you to intensive care, no better place in the world to be, your being monitored 24/7 by people who know their stuff. Relax you will be fine and back home in no time.

Being scared is understandable. Who wouldn't be? Something like this untreated would be bad news. While you are not without risks, you are in the best place to be. Of the 3 friends in my circle who have had multiple bouts with this over the last 10 years or more, they're all 3 doing pretty good these days. Early treatment is key, and it sounds like you got there early. Hang in there and keep us informed as you are able.

Are the nurses answering your questions? It would be best if you had someone to advocate for you. The aids generally take the vitals, but call the nurse if you are afraid something is out of range. If they can explain to you why this blood pressure is ok with your treatment, you will be able to relax enough to get what limited rest is available in the hospital.

Stormy, give your logon and password information to a relative, just in case you can't post, so we can keep up with you.
Sounds like you're getting excellent care there, but of course you're scared! Who wouldn't be? I'm glad we can at least be here for you to hold your hand electronically. I sure hope there is someone there holding your real hand, but if not, we're here for you.
Sometimes it takes a little while for all the bureaucratic paperwork to go through so they can move you. Sometimes you have to wait for an available bed. Someone who was scheduled to go home at noon maybe didn't make it out until 4 pm, and they have to sterilize the bed and all that before they can move you in.
So glad other people here know what you're going through and can give you concrete advice. I can only offer my cyber sympathy and hugs. {{{Stormy}}}
Best wishes,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Stormy sorry to hear you are in hospital, but it is the best place for you right now until they get that clot cleared up. Just glad that you went there before anything happened to you. It's nice to know you have so many friends on this forum that care about you and gave you such good advice. You'll be home before you know it. Best wishes for your speedy recovery.

Stormy,
Sorry I am so late to express this to you but you will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers for complete recovery. Thank you for listening to the collective wisdom and loving concern shown to you by this very special family/community. We may sometimes times get a little off track, inadvertently disappoint or frustrate, even show ridiculously childish or grouchy behavior, but deep down, when it matters the most, we take care of our own! Though most of us will never meet face to face, we have a connection that goes beyond our shared need for PAP therapy and wonderfully blends our little electronic world with the real world, as real people, and helps us to face together what we would never want to face alone...

Re: OT My left leg is huge
I need to apologize for not seeing your post until last night. I didn't get home until around 9:00 pm and was so tired that I almost fell asleep at the computer. I didn't respond last night, but I had you in my thoughts and prayers as I prepared for bed. I'm so glad to hear that you went on to the hospital to have it checked out. I will continue to keep you and my dad in my prayers and thoughts. He was diagnosed with Rock Mountain Spotted Fever a few days ago, and was rushed back to the hospital, night before last, having a hard time breathing. He's 87 and is having a hard time with this. We (his kids) will have to figure out a way to keep him out of the garden that he loves.
I wish there was some way to relieve you of your fears and thoughts running through your mind! I have had panic attacks in the past, due to chest pains and being afraid I was having a heart attack! I know how scary those thoughts can be. Don't be afraid to ask the Nurse's and Doctors any questions or concerns that you have. Most, don't mind explaining the procedures and addressing any concerns. May God bless you and watch over you in your time of need! Please keep us updated when you feel up to it and do not over do it! Take the time to try and rest (like anyone can really do that in a hospital)! I'll be praying for a speedy recovery!

I think of this forum as a family, maybe the kind that emulates a box of good cereal;
full of nuts, flakes, and dried out fruit, but so comforting to have when needed.

My blood pressure is extremely low. Like 60's over 30 something. I have no idea what is too low but how low can it go and me stay safe?
Here is an explanation of what a PICC line is. In your case they seemed to have selected a site in your leg but the process is the same.
Hope all is going well.
What is a PICC Line?
A Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, or "PICC line," is a thin, soft plastic tube — like an intravenous (IV) line — that allows you to receive medicines and fluids. A PICC line stays in place for as long as needed.
A nurse places a PICC line into a large vein in your arm and guides the catheter up into the main vein near your heart where blood flows quickly. The nurse sutures (stitches) the PICC line in place and covers the site with a sterile bandage. An x-ray is done to make sure that the catheter is in the right place. It takes 1 - 1 ½ hours to place the PICC line. Most patients feel little or no discomfort during this procedure. A local anesthetic may be used.

The PICC line spares you from having multiple incisions at different times.
It save you so much discomfort; people really like them. Patients and nurses alike.
