OT My left leg is huge You saved my life.
Re: OT My left leg is huge
A big thankyou to everyone that scared the crap out of me. The age going to bust up the clot on Monday. They say it is massive. It didn't hurt at first but it does now. Thank you for all the well wishes. I am going to be fine.

Stormy, you don't know how happy I am to hear that you will be okay in the long run. Rest, relax and get better soon.
Cheers

Fantastic! I was really worried for you but afraid to say so and scare you worse, but it's great it's being taken care of. Good luck for Monday!

Re: OT My left leg is huge
They are moving me to intensive care to bust up the clots. Now they are scaring me. They tell me I am going to love the pick line but I don't know why I am getting that. My blood pressure is extremely low. Like 60's over 30 something. I have no idea what is too low but how low can it go and me stay safe?
Re: OT My left leg is huge
My husband had a pick line when he came home after 6 days in hospital this past March. He had a very serious ear infection. It meant that he could come home and have a nurse come in daily to change the bag of antibiotics he used every day instead of getting antibiotics via IV in the hospital. He kept the bag of antibiotics in a fanny pack at his waist. There was a pump in the fanny pack as well, to deliver the meds on a timed schedule. A nurse came to our home every day, flushed the pick line, after removing the old antibiotic bag and put on a new one. Every 3 days the dressing where the pick line went in was changed by the home nurse.
It meant he could come home and not have any real restrictions. Putting it in was quite easy but had to be done in a sterile environment (I guess that's one reason you are in ICU). The home care nurse took it out and it took about 3 seconds - no discomfort at all).
I expect they would use it to deliver many types of meds.
I'm so glad your are being taken care of! All the best and keep in touch!

Dear Stormy,
I have not been comprehensively following cpcaptalk lately, just popping in and out briefly due to other life events, and I did not see/read your thread until just now.
I am so thankful that other members here gave you such good advice, you followed it, and are now getting good care. Please keep us all posted.
Best wishes for good health,
Nate

Re: OT My left leg is huge
Hi Stormy,
Here I am again, surprised that my health adventure over the past couple of years may benefit someone else. I was the one who had a DVT in my arm, and I chimed in with the others who "scared the crap" out of you!
I have a central line catheter (a perma-cath) in my chest. This is very similar to a PICC line, but placed in the chest, rather than the arm. They usually want to install a central line to deliver meds to an area with very high circulation ie. a chamber of your heart. The high circulation dilutes the meds much more effectively, and allows more aggressive treatments. If they delivered the same meds using a regular IV, your veins would get very damaged. It also saves you from lots of needle sticks. Please ask me any question. I have learned to change my own dressing, but I still have the professionals flush it out. My only complaint is the clips and caps on the outside of my body are not always comfortable, so I sewed some covers, similar to pad a cheek products. I will send her an email to see if she can make some for you.
I am so glad you are healing, i hope the blood pressure issues are resolved soon.
Best, Maureen

Re: OT My left leg is huge
How low is too low. I have never heard of anyone having BP this low. Last time they checked it it was 76 over 42. Yes it did go up but this sounds crazy. The are putting the line in behind the left knee this has like a soaker hose that is centered in the clot. Medicine will be put through the soaker hose like thing. It will drain behind my knee. I don;t know where the pic line is going to be. I do hope I am understanding all of this correctly. Maybe I am being sill but I am scared.
