Emergency care is not health care, it is a subset of it. Not providing regular health care and preventative health care means that visits to ER are less. It is much more effective to treat people at the onset of any issue then it is to wait until it is life threatening. At that point it is very expensive and all that is done is the patient is patched up and sent out to die at home.I don't personally know of anyone who has been denied basic health care, though I'm sure there may be a few. Even our socialist neighbors up north have people that fall between the cracks, so no system is perfect! Even with pre-existing conditions, they can usually receive care from some Doctors, hospitals or through Community Health Centers (Federally funded for uninsured poor people). If they are indeed poor, most have Medicaid to help with healthcare cost, or can go through a CH center and pay based on income.

There was a woman with a bible at my door this AM. I didn't answer because I thought she might be the Obamacare police in disguise.

Deerhound, there are some pretty smart people here, who are well-informed about health care insurance and the Patient Protection/Affordable Care Act.deerhound wrote: Democrat healthcare laws have cost me about $500 more a month since they put their name to it. … I am retired and live off a small retirement pension I worked 30 years for. I have tried to live my life so that the government is not paying for my health care, until I qualify for SS and Medicare, which by the way I payed for my entire working career.… Believe me the $6000 a year that Obama care has cost me since it was passed has been a real sent in my retirement.
If you would like to share the specifics and details of your sudden increase of $6,000 per year in health insurance cost, which you believe is due to the law's passage, it is entirely possible that there is a solution which you may be overlooking.
If you would be willing to go step-by-step through the specific details of how this financial calamity occurred to you, there may be a solution. You can't rely on or trust the representatives of any private health insurance company to inform you of all your available options, even when the law says it must.
The invitation is open. It may help you to drop the blame game for a few moments, neither attack nor counterattack, and lay it all out. After all, we are all here to help each other. That's the true purpose of this forum.
Best wishes, Nate
PS - I too was self-employed for the major portion of my life, and prior to the time I was eligible for Medicare, Blue Cross/Shield was charging me $1500 a month - $18,000 per year - for my health insurance coverage. What is the total amount per month you are being charged, just for your own coverage?

If the ACA is such a bad law, I am sure it will be addressed by future politicians. The real issue is that ACA foes are AFRAID that the population will discover they LIKE it. Then what? Well, then the next political race will change and it won't be a good change for those that want democrats to lose.
Am I wrong? Then why is their such absolute PANIC on the eve of the law's most important provisions taking place?? Why does it have to be stopped before it is tried?

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

Here's a pretty good illustration.
Looks like when the Dems controlled Congress in the last two years of the Bush administration and the first year of Obama's.
But, BOTH parties have enough blame to go around.
Part of the problem is that once the spending is legislated, it doesn't stop and keeps going long after the administrations have left office.
