pikov22, I'm sorry you're still having trouble. I can relate for slightly different reasons (my AHI is not a problem, always <1, but as tired and fatigued as when I started PAP a year+ ago). Just offering understanding...

I sadly agree with you on this. It would be nice if they were like one of the partners of my mother's former doctor who specifically said on the website of the medical practice that she enjoyed solving complicated cases. But I think she is a minority in her profession. And many of these doctors that exist charge a fortune. I would love to be proven wrong on this.pikov22 wrote:Thanks. I'm not convinced that there is anything a doctor can do for most of us.49er wrote:I too hope you can find a good doctor Pikov22. I am so sorry you are still struggling.
You have pretty much nailed it about the sleep medicine industry. I mean, I don't think apnea is being overdiagnosed but there is no incentive for sleep medicine practices to do a good job.

Re: Status Report (If Anyone Cares)
Some of the local primary care doctors in the community own their own sleep clinic or more specifically are partners in it. Each of our doctors have a stake in it, and my own primary care doctor has used the clinic. The sleep center itself has a person, not the sleep doctor, work with patients after the diagnosis, and he is a user of the machines himself, so he seems to understand whatever problems people have. He uses his own machine nightly and can help answer any questions or deal with any problems people have. Yes, he uses the same equipment I do and can answer any questions I have. I can either make an appointment to see him, or drop in if I have an unexpected problem. My machine has worked from me from day 1, I have lost 74.7 pounds since first using my machine, and I am continuing with my weight loss. This person who has worked with me has undergone a weight loss of his own, knows the benefits of sleeping well, and I'm comforted that he understands whatever problems I have and can answer any questions I have. Even though he's lost weight himself, he still has to use a machine at a decreased flow rate, but he uses it.
I'd recommend that you find another doctor, and another place. These sleep experts are supposed to be able to help you. If not, it's your duty to move on and find someone who will help you and work with you.
I also own my own machine and it was paid for, not rented, through my insurance. Also, there have been no problems with my insurance company.

Right, I could call him on it politely and ask him in a nice way to back off-at which point he would passively-agressive pretend to be shocked and claim he was only being friendly. Trust me, I know inappropriate behavior when I see it. Don't ask me how I know...

Meeting with the first audiologist I went to to be tested for my hearing, my long-time girlfriend explained:old dude wrote:At least your doc didn't come on to your wife. "He wants hearing aids because I tend to speak very softly, and I want him to hear what I say because I love him."
The audiologist smirked at her and replied:
"Why don't you just get a younger boyfriend?"
She stood up and said:
"Let's go somewhere else. We're leaving."
And we did.
Regards, Nate

Re: Status Report (If Anyone Cares)
You don't have to tell the other partner in the group exactly why you're changing drs. You can make it short and sweet like "our personalities don't seem to click" or I was just feeling a little uncomfortable, blah, blah". I managed a 5 doctor neuro group and we had patients changing drs all the time for various reasons. Sometimes they told me their true gripe and sometimes not. I wouldn't be surprised if you told the manager the real reason you're switching, she may not be too surprised. These bizarre actions usually don't just happen once and a doctor's office is the gossip capital of the world!
