Status Report (If Anyone Cares)

Post by pikov22 » Mon Aug 12, 2013 3:10 pm

I've been on a CPA machine since last November. Each day is different -- some times I need a nap and other times I can fight my way through it.

Still not feeling rested.

My new sleep doc is just as much as an ***hole as my old one, and going to his office is like going to Motor Vehicles! But I'll see what he says at the Sept/Oct appointment before I change. I'm beginning to think that for many of us, we're victims of a medical racket! For the doc, a steady income, no emergency calls, regular business hours, etc. For us, not much improvement and we don't die from OSA either. It's like allergies (that's what my allergy doc told me!).

My AHI is still above 5 and my RDI runs 10-15. Pressure changes seem to make no difference (except when I had it a little higher, I was swallowing a lot of air).

Oh, me, oh my!

I too hope you can find a good doctor Pikov22. I am so sorry you are still struggling.

You have pretty much nailed it about the sleep medicine industry. I mean, I don't think apnea is being overdiagnosed but there is no incentive for sleep medicine practices to do a good job. If you leave, there are plenty more customers on the way for the doctor.

Thanks. I'm not convinced that there is anything a doctor can do for most of us.

Agreed...That's why most of us manage our own therapy.

I see that you are in New Jersey - I'm very very happy with my sleep doctor at the JFK medical center in Edison NJ, their dept of neurosciences and sleep medicine. They seem to really want to get it to work for you. If you are interested I can give you her name and phone number.

Sorry you're feeling discouraged. I don't remember if you ever posted your reports but if you can do that I'm sure Pugsy or some other pros can possibly find out what the problem is and help you make adjustments. Keep us posted.

<sigh> So soon they forget! I've posted a fair number of reports. But, I'm happy to post more. What would you like to see?

Don't wait. Change. Find someone you trust. Schedule with someone new now, and keep the sept/oct appointment if the wait for the new doc is too long.

Right, I could call him on it politely and ask him in a nice way to back off-at which point he would passively-agressive pretend to be shocked and claim he was only being friendly. Trust me, I know inappropriate behavior when I see it. Don't ask me how I know...
Can you post a picture of your wife?

KIDDING!

Yes, Sorry, I do remember now that you had lots of interaction and excellent advice from the "experts" but I'm not one of them I'm afraid. Hopefully someone will come along to help you problem solve again.
