My daughter's sleep study

The teen years are like the invaders of the brain snatchers. You see your child's body walking around with no brains. They remember nothing they were taught and think your only purpose in like is to give them money and make their life miserable. Then one day as suddenly as it happened they snap out of it and you have your child back. I am living the years now when I can fully realize how wiping those snotty noses have paid off. Then you can live happily ever after.

My daughter would say she is "totes adorbs."

Glad it was not a traumatic experience for her.

She is adorable! This makes me tear-up.

Didn't seem to bother her at all. She was annoyed at the nose thing. But she fell asleep and slept a little over 8 hours. Of course when she got home? She slept 9 hours straight so it must not have been restful

My daughter has three months before she achieves Swarmey teenager status.

DD has an AHI of 15 an hour. She's being referred to an ENT for possible tonsil and adenoid removal. So now we'll just wait for the pediatricians office to get us set up with a referral for that.

I'm gonna need it!!! She is a drama queen....but she's also been in over 30+ theatre plays - so it's natural.

I have two kids (3&5), just curious what made you think she may have Sleep apnea? Did you hear her stop breathing, or does she snore loudly when she sleeps? Do you have sleep apnea? Sorry, if it appears intrusive, (and understand if you do not want to answer) I just want to know what to look for with my kids as they get older. I remember in my teen years being abnormally tired, (even more than normal teen) eyes fluttering in class, through college, and then unil mid-late 30's, when I finally went and got a sleep study. I wonder how long I truly have had sleep apnea.

I am worried, I will pass this on to my kids.

Oh I don't mind the questions at all!! My daughter was actually diagnosed with Apnea as a little baby (4 months old) Here's a photo from her very first sleep study



At that time she had Apnea, Asthma, and reflux. At 13 months old she seemingly outgrew her apnea and reflux. She didn't turn blue or anything anymore so I assumed she was fine then.

However she's NEVER slept good. She would start out in her bed but get up in the middle of the night, move to the floor, the couch, my bed. Never stayed still. She is 7 and still wets her bed. She snorts and is extremely restless in her sleep. She's constantly moving, even during her sleep study she rolled over at least 22 times throughout the night.

She also has arm spasms. Her arms and legs and body would jerk like she was having a full body twitch. She's diagnosed with a learning disability too (which I've read can be impacted by sleep apnea)

What prompted her most recent study though is she started having horrible migraines. She's scream and cry in agony and start throwing up. We saw a neurologist who asked us all kinds of questions. He decided to keep her on a migraine med but told us to talk to her pulmonologist (who is a pediatric sleep disorder expert too, in the top 10% in the nation)

Turns out all the moving she does in her sleep? Is her body's way of keeping her breathing
She said that it sounded like DD did have apnea and since she had it as a baby she was likely born with it.

I think there was a recent study that linked childhood migraines with apnea.
She is a real cutie pie!

Yeah that's what her pulmo said too.

Hopefully we'll hear from the Pediatricians office about whichever ENT we're referred to and can get in to see him/her and figure out what to do next

You'll want to discuss the issue of a total tonsillectomy vs. a partial. If you're doing this for sleep apnea purposes, you don't want the tonsils to possibly grow back (as they can with a partial). Also, have you started meeting with an orthodontist? Nowadays they often start watching kids early. If maxillary expansion is needed, that could also help sleep apnea. If all that doesn't work, there is, of course, CPAP. Good luck!

Really the only thing I'm planning is tonsil and adenoid removal and CPAP if she doesn't qualify or it doesn't work. She's been through hell and I really don't want to put her through more than necessary.

So we'll just meet with the ENT and go from there
