And yet with one statement you seem to have invalidated the majority preference around here with ease.
I read it more as an expression of having difficulty than an invalidation. And I've learned some things from the discussion. For example, I was shocked to learn that their are apparently employees of major airlines who aren't feminist, pagan, socialists.

Some people have worn out their welcome with one screen name so they sneak back in without getting caught.
Some people feel their private life real name is just what I said...private. There's a bunch of sickos out there...never know who might be stalking whom in today's cyber world.
Some just like creative screen ID names just for fun...imaginative names.
Call me old-fashioned but I find it difficult to have a serious discussion with someone who is hiding their identity. (Not you, Pugsy. I know your name. :~>)

I hate it when strangers call me "Pikov", especially in a doctor's office.
I can't imagine why you would need to know someone's full name in order to have a serious discussion, why is that?

For the record, my real name is Conrad, so there.

It takes less time to do a thing right than to explain why you did it wrong.

My first name is fairly uncommon; I don't meet many other "me's".
As long as I'm working, I prefer to fly under the radar. (all right; HOP)

Thanks, -SWS. I'm ashamed to say that I had been unable to sniff out that reference until your post. Went right over my head. I guess some days I'm slower than others. I'd better check my pressures.

So whenever I am asked to supply my mother's maiden name, I have secret name I use instead of the real one. If I have to say what it is to confirm my identity, the person always does a double take and says, "Is that really her name?" My reply is always, "That is the name I choose to use."
I do the same thing -- for account security, not personal security.

In Act II, Scene II of the play, the line is said by Juliet in reference to Romeo's house, Montague which would imply that his name means nothing and they should be together.
Juliet:
O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.

So, have you all denied your fathers?

I get that. However, when a person is giving expert advice, I would like to know who that person is.

Look at all the false and misleading statements being made every day by people in the news. And we know their names! :-0

And of course, "talking" (and "listening") in the virtual sense.
Take a step back and look at this from a newcomer's POV.

A person comes here and asks a question. He gets a handful of answers. How is he to tell which are valid and which are questionable?

My first experience with you was when you denigrated the dictionary definitions I posted. How does a person denigrate a dictionary definition???

And you didn't say, "Oh, that's not the definition we in the field use." You said, "Wrong!" or words to that effect.

Oh, speaking of that other thread, how does a CPAP machine determine arousals in the absence of EEG waves?

Well, if that was how I felt about it, then I might conclude for myself that online forums just weren't the places for me to go a-lookin' for that sorta thing, then, eh?

Just sayin'.

Dating yourself!
On CompuServe you didn't use a name, you used a number (70210.243, and yes, that was my real number). I started on CompuServe's MicroNET program, when they were trading it for consumers. I also wrote one of the access programs. Now THAT is fading myself!
You're right!! 70240,334 Can't believe I remember that. Dating myself? I admit to being 78-1/2. What forums were you on? Do you remember when Karl somebody tried to get CompuServe to connect to the Internet through Ohio State University's connection AND THEY REFUSED? They would have been AOL before there was an AOL.

Are you posting with an autocorrect device?

You've had your so-called sleep expert. You even posted her whole currcula vitae on this website. And yet you're back here. Whaddup with that?
