Went in to DME, where they had everything already unpacked (never saw the box.)
Tried on masks, sitting at the table with machine on mask test.
RPSGT showed me how to adjust humidity, use mask test, set ramp, and turn on/off.
Also what to plug in and where. Carried it home in the travel bag, repeated hooks and switches.
Slept as much as possible for a beginner.

Re: Who set you up?
I let my wife accompany me to the doctor's office for my 6 month blood pressure checkup. She told the doctor that I often stopped breathing at night. I told them, "Of course I hold my breath at night when I'm dreaming about snorkeling in the Bahamas!" They weren't buying it...BlackSpinner wrote:That phrase could have several meanings LOL ...(EDIT)Who set you up?
So Ultimately, I would say, my wife "set me up".

An oral surgeon examined me for TMJ and immediately (the same day) sent me to the sleep clinic where I was set up for a sleep study. The sleep tech woke me up and fitted me with a mask. I saw my DME that afternoon to get my machine. She spent a good 45 minutes with me going over the fit, cleaning and the things to know. I went home, set it up, then started the long road of working out the kinks. Thank goodness for you all!

Re: Who set you up?
Four weeks after the sleep study, the sleep doctor's office said they had the study results and scheduled an appointment a week out. I saw the sleep doctor to get the RX for the machine. He was going to prescribe a Philips. I insisted that I needed allergen-removing filters and wanted him to confirm that the Philips had them. He called the DME and they said that only the Resmed did (not true, as it turns out)...so he changed the RX to the Resmed S9 Elite. I made an appointment with the DME for the next day. In the DME office, they unpacked the machine, went over all the parts and features, fit the mask, and sent me on my way.
As the sleep doctor immediately went out of town for three weeks, all my help/issues/questions have been dealt with at CPAPtalk...and my primary care physician for sleep aid help and moral support.
The DME was extremely helpful with a mask change and with mask cleaning advice. But my sleep doctor is WORTHLESS.

Just want to clarify for others who might read this thread in the future that the DME was either confused, mis-informed, or lied about Philips machines not having allergen removing filters (called: fine white particulate filters). My guess is the later... The DME probably had a specific reason for saying that Resmed was the only one with that type of filter. Probably had a lot of Resmed in stock otherwise it would have been Philips as the only one with it!
I hate to be so cynical, but after awhile you see and hear so much negative about quite a few of the DME experience's that it can't all be unfairly applied. Many times it is money over ethics...
