They asked to speak with Kate. That is all they asked. And they expected to be denied.

The nurse said that Kate was asleep and then VOLUNTEERED the confidential information.

And then they took the CONFIDENTIAL information and AIRED IT!

Hmm, what if someone had impersonated an official to obtain your daughter's confidential health information such as an abortion? Would you still think it was a harmless prank and want another judge to dismiss it?

You can sit around creating imaginative situations with your alloted time on earth if you want to. It doesn't bolster your argument.

My daughter actually has had three abortions (spontaneous).

I could say I feel suicidal because the two of you belittled me about my daughter's abortions on an international forum with 64,587 registered members.

If that is how you want to spend your allotted time on Earth.

Considering all points made here... FWIW... I wouldn't mind appearing before Judge Nap.

Nope, no imagined scenarios for me. Instead, I'm going to make cookies to take to the beach house for vacation.

In my worst condition pre-CPAP, I wasn't suicidal but didn't really care if I died, though that has nothing to do with perceived public embarassment or humiliation.

Well there you go, you can be an expert witness for the defense of the deejays.

Maybe you don't care who gets your medical information, and perhaps wouldn't even mind if your neighbor or a co-worker or maybe other people here on cpaptalk obtained copies of your bank accounts and credit card purchases by pre-texting. But some people would mind, and appreciate the fact that there is a law making it a criminal offense. If it happens to you, however, feel free to overlook it as merely a silly prank, not a violation of your privacy.

Sorry Nate, but in the context of needing the government to protect my privacy, you are plain wrong. I trust my banks and the credit card companies much more than I do the government.

Any bank worth its salt is very careful not to disclose information about its clients. I don't need the government checking on this. I can take care of it myself. The government only causes extra costs, delays, bureaucracy and impinges on personal freedom.

I would worry more about the government exposing my privacy that I would anyone whose income depends on keeping my stuff confidential. The market works quite well for me. The government not so well.

I have been away for some time and want to comment that this issue of the prosecution of the deejays has been closed. From Wikipedia:
In late December 2012, New South Wales deputy police commissioner Nick Kaldas said that though there had been initial contact from Scotland Yard in the United Kingdom, there has been no formal request to interview Greig and Christian. Kaldas said that it seemed unlikely any charges will be laid.[6]

In February 2013 British prosecutors confirmed that no charges would be laid against Greig and Christian. They said that there was no evidence to support a charge of manslaughter. While there was "some evidence" to warrant further investigation of offences under Britain’s Data Protection Act and Malicious Communications Act, any potential prosecution would not be in the public interest. The Crown Prosecution Service said that decision was taken because it isn’t possible to extradite from Australia for those potential offences, and because "however misguided, the telephone call was intended as a harmless prank".[33]
The idea of prosecuting these deejays was silly to me and all of the authorities and even the royal family agree.

I would also like to point this out about the poor nurse Jacintha, for whom I truly feel sorry for her life difficulties:
Saldanha had reportedly attempted suicide twice before. She had taken an overdose of pills on 30 December 2011 during a family trip to India. After that attempt she was rushed to a private hospital in Mangalore and treated for "self harm". On 8 January 2012 she is believed to have attempted suicide again and was treated at Father Muller Medical College Hospital for head injuries suffered in a "fall". After several days in intensive care Saldanha was admitted to the hospital's psychiatric ward and treated for depression. She was discharged after three days and given a nine-month course of anti-depressants. Her family was warned there was a risk that she may attempt suicide again.[7]

Or...you could just stop reading it.

Obviously, there are those who are interested. It doesn't violate the User Agreement, and no one is forcing anyone to click on it.

Good points LinkC!

I think nothing in the thread violates the User Agreement except Taringa's language!

Your comments remind me of a recent column by noted Conservative columnist David Brooks:
Change is hard because people don’t only think on the surface level. Deep down people have mental maps of reality — embedded sets of assumptions, narratives and terms that organize thinking. Since Barry Goldwater, the central Republican narrative has been what you might call the Encroachment Story: the core problem of American life is that voracious government has been steadily encroaching upon individuals and local communities. The core American conflict, in this view, is between Big Government and Personal Freedom.

While losing the popular vote in five of the last six presidential elections, the flaws of this mentality have become apparent. First, if opposing government is your primary objective, it’s hard to have a positive governing program.
* * * * *
Can current Republicans change their underlying mentality to adapt to these realities? Intellectual history says no. People almost never change their underlying narratives or unconscious frameworks. Moreover, in the South and rural West, where most Republicans are from, the Encroachment Story has deep historic and psychological roots. Anti-Washington, anti-urban sentiment has characterized those cultures for decades.

I appreciate that there are OT posts here - helps to get to know people on the outside of sleep apnea. We HAVE the disorder, we are NOT THE DISORDER. I appreciate that they are (almost) always posted with an 'OT' prior to the subject.

It's nice to know that this is a fine group of people with interests and ideas outside of just battling a health issue. I LOVE the fact that there are opinions and sometimes they are so drop dead funny that it gives me a few minutes to remember that I'm human and that . . .I . . . um. . .contrary to my husband's belief, have NOT been 'assimilated'. . . just yet.

So thank you all. I will withhold my judgement here - such a tragic thing. . . but thank you for having the courage to post your opinions and showing your human sides. Sometimes there are other ways people need to breathe other than just through the nose and mouth.

One of these days, I may jump in -

Just a forewarning, not a threat.
