OT: Nurse Jacintha Saldanha
Re: OT: Nurse Jacintha Saldanha
Calling a hospital to try an trick someone into revealing a persons medical history, is not a prank. It is an invasion of a reasonable expectation of privacy.
No ones medical records/condition should be broadcast to the world. I don't care who you are.
If it were you, would you want your medical status be public knowledge with out your consent?

100% agree. I don't qualify that as a prank, either.

Re: OT: Nurse Jacintha Saldanha
Absolutely. While it is a different culture have people never heard of "Hari kiri"? The Japanese form of honour suicide? Because this would be a perfect example of it. Suicide would have been the only possible answer in a case like this where someone failed in their responsibility to protect a member of the ruling family and was publicly disgraced. There have been and probably still are cultures where this is far more true then in the USA. The concept of falling on your sword if you fail and are disgraced is not that uncommon.49er wrote:
The old blame the victim attitude strikes again. As an aside Therapist, you don't have to be mentally ill to commit suicide unless you think everyone who did that during the Depression qualified for a DSM5 diagnosis of depression.
Again, which you tough love folks seem to want to deliberately ignore, this woman came from India, which has a different value system regarding honor and disgrace. I am really getting tired of the US imposing their mental health values on other countries and trying to posthumously diagnose everyone as mentally ill when that country's culture of norms are totally different.

Some people were wondering why the royal family does not employ a concierge medical team,
to preserve their privacy--knowing full well that curiosity and greed usually trumps morality.
But then one remembers MJ.

And I'm really getting tired of people living & working in a culture different from the one they are accustomed to, and expecting everyone else to adapt to them.49er wrote:I am really getting tired of the US imposing their mental health values on other countries and trying to posthumously diagnose everyone as mentally ill when that country's culture of norms are totally different.

What does this have to do with the nurse adapting to British culture? You totally missed my point.KSMike wrote:And I'm really getting tired of people living & working in a culture different from the one they are accustomed to, and expecting everyone else to adapt to them.49er wrote:I am really getting tired of the US imposing their mental health values on other countries and trying to posthumously diagnose everyone as mentally ill when that country's culture of norms are totally different.
People in the US in my opinion, wrongly want to assume that everyone who commits suicide is a mental health nut case. All I was trying to point out was that Indian culture is different and that should be kept in mind.

Re: OT: Nurse Jacintha Saldanha
I have been suicidally depressed. I don't say that casually as if I was just a bit down one day and thought about killing myself, I mean that I was clinically diagnosed by a psychiatrist. So don't be telling me that I lack an understanding of or compassion for this person's death. I understand those feelings very well and I have complete sympathy for the victim and her family.
However, blame being apportioned to anyone else BUT the victim is just absurd. Words are intangible and cause no physical harm. You cannot be held responsible for being a nasty or stupid person that says nasty or stupid things. Bullying is horrible but at the end of the day the actions a person takes in response to bullying are THEIR responsibility, not anyone else's.
This attitude of shifting blame to everyone else but the person who committed the act is a big part of the problem and only causes to further exacerbate the issue and cause more problems like this. If we were to instead stop caring so much about what other people think about us and stopped being so emotionally dependent on other people's opinions for our own ego integrity, then less people would commit suicide based on nothing more than someone embarrassing them publicly.
If I had killed myself, I would have only myself to blame.

Re: OT: Nurse Jacintha Saldanha
Just learned that Nurse Jacintha Saldanha did not reveal personal information about the condition of the Duchess of Cambridge to the DJs. It was another nurse who gave them details (and she did not commit suicide).
The connection of the suicide with the prank call is very weak.

The second nurse said, "She hasn't had any retching with me and she's been sleeping on and off."

Re: OT: Nurse Jacintha Saldanha
I'll go ahead and predict that the second nurse comes from a different culture than the first nurse.
I saw a piece of an article about the various suicide notes, and it seems they specifically referenced the "prank" and the hospital, so I wouldn't say the connection is weak at all.

I have been pondering about this kind of stuff as far as this board goes for a few days now. Why isn't there different topic areas set up? There are endless posts of the same thing over and over and over and over again, 1391 pages worth! There is no rhyme or reason to it! Can't they set this board up like pretty much every other board in the world with topics? Seriously, it would help alot!Lizistired wrote:I'm over the OT crap. If you are looking for a social network, FB is good for that. This forum provided a valuable platform form me and a wealth of information when I faced OSA and needed informations and answers. Sadly over the last year, that seems to have become a platform for bantering of personal opinions, to the point that new OSA patients come here and don't get answers...
This isn't a place for politics or BS. There was a time when that was balanced, but it seems that time has passed.

Do a search. This gets covered at least once every 3 months. You will get hundreds of hits. Read them.grillhead wrote:I have been pondering about this kind of stuff as far as this board goes for a few days now. Why isn't there different topic areas set up? I just learned that anyone with a post history and some longevity can delete posts here so I'm guessing that the place was set-up by cpap.com and then just left to its own devices.grillhead wrote:I have been pondering about this kind of stuff as far as this board goes for a few days now. Quite frankly there are probably better, more organised boards than this but I haven't been bothered to look for them and this place was recommended to me by a health professional so it was the first I came to.

To use another favorite saying from downunder!!!
This thread is full of SHIT !!!!!!!
Get over it people & move on! it was a PRANK!!!!
I would have thought you people would have more to be concerned about, PRIMARY SCHOOL CARNAGE, Gunman shoots 20 kids & six teachers in a quiet suburban Connecticut school
This happens far to often in the US
Clean up your own backyard first!
