Water chamber won't close

Post by trac1965 » Wed Dec 12, 2012 3:49 am

1EVGoDYHELP

I cleaned out my hose and water chamber Sunday but now I can't get the lid back on the chamber!! I've had this problem on a much smaller scale but was almost able to make it fit so it would click together. Maybe the warm water warped the seal??

Thanks.

It would really help to know what machine you are using in order to help you.

Cheers,

If you are using the ResMed S9 Series, the 4 latches are connected together by a band of the same material that wraps around the chamber.

That band sometimes slips down a little & therefore brings the latches down with it.

Go all around the chamber & make sure that band is as far up the chamber sides as it can be.
Make sure to do all 4 sides.

If you warm up the metal bottom with the plastic rim strip on it, like by running warm water on it or putting it in a pan or dishpan of warm water, it makes that strip much easier to move up far enough so that you can push the holder doo-dads on the sides closed *smile*. Then it tightens up again when it cools down. Otherwise, yes, it can be hard to move up high enough manually.

My cover won't close. I even had my mechanically inclined son help me with no success. I thought that perhaps the seal had warped as well. I have no idea what to do to fix it, but I cannot sleep without it...Please help.

If it is an S9, slide the collar up until it stops, then fasten the clips.

See my post above from the original part of the thread. That really works, the ring actually gets loose enough to come off in warm water. So it's easy to move at that point. Has to do with the fact that when warmed, plastic expands more than metal...think about it *smile*.

This thread saved my sanity last night about 12:30 am when I was trying to put the water chamber back together before bedtime after cleaning it that morning!! No matter how I readjusted it I could not get the holes to line up with the tabs that snap into them. I actually thought I was losing my mind, as it had not been a problem when I took it apart earlier. I finally decided the water I washed it with must have been too hot and warped the seal or something. In desperation I googled the problem and found this thread, and of course I found an answer to the problem. The band around the metal reservoir had slipped down just a fraction, but enough to throw everything off. Moved it back up as far as I could get it and it was like magic!!

I gotta say that I love this forum! I've been reading since late May when I started on CPAP, or I guess really APAP, and have learned so much from it about being patient, fitting the mask properly, etc. It is a slow process of adjusting with no real immediate rewards, at least for me. (My AHI from the home study was a 7, just enough to be diagnosed with OSA by my internist who prescribed the machine--I'm assuming due to my having high blood pressure.) But this is the first time I have actually received immediate results from something I learned on this forum and just wanted to share and say thanks to all the experienced users who share their knowledge with us newbies.

As a side note regarding similar problems on the PR sys one machine: Sometimes the plastic hook/lip on the inside of the tank that holds the lid down actually cracks where it makes its 90 degree turn. You won't actually notice it unless you look carefully. Eventually the crack gets bigger and that makes it hard for the lid to click in place while engaging the bottom of the tank. Eventually the catch lip breaks off and the catch fails... you'll have to tape the lid down securely to the bottom of the tank until you get a new tank (thin masking tape works). First make sure the silicone seal is seated properly before you go troubleshooting.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Yeah, it's enough to drive you crazy when everything appears normal... then you have to dig deeper (or look more carefully). As my electronic's professor used to say: Observe, engage brain, observe again, then act.

And if that doesn't work, come to this forum for CPAP answers and advice! Every problem I have run into since I started with CPAP has been addressed and discussed somewhere in this forum. A lot of experience, knowledge and excellent advice is found here.
