Using a mouth guard eliminated jaw pain caused by chinstrap
I need to tape my mouth and use a chin strap to prevent mouth breathing. The respironics deluxe chin strap seems to be the only one I've found that works for me in keeping my mouth shut (previously i had to use sticky ace bandages) but upon waking i've had some pretty bad jaw pain. The last couple of nights i've used the kind of mouth guard i used when i played football. You boil it and then mold it to your teeth and it remains attached to the upper teeth ( keeps you from biting your tongue off if you get hit in the jaw). Using this was much more comfortable when going off to sleep and i've experienced no jaw pain at all upon waking.

An inexpensive solution;
Not necessarily will work for everyone, but--good thinking!
Thank you for submitting this--if it works for one other person it's well worth trying.

john I'm an incorrigible mouth breather too -- I've also been taping and chin strapping. I've used a dental night guard for years but it goes on my upper teeth and hasn't prevented my mouth from falling open during sleep.
But I just ordered the double mouth guard shown in this sleep tech's video -- check it out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8tuVqAd8RI
I'll post again when I've had a chance to give it a test run. I'm hoping to get rid of tape and chin strap forever!

How about a link to the web page where you ordered it from in case someone else might want to try one.kaiasgram wrote: I just ordered the double mouth guard shown in this sleep tech's video

Those mouth guards are made of rigid plastic and allow mouth breathing. They just protect the teeth and tongue. I THINK, that if you can get FLEXIBLE FOAM guards that don't allow mouth breathing, then with the combination of a chinstrap it should cushion the force between the jaws and reduce the pressure on the TMJs and improve your Temporomandibular disorder. But what if you also apply force between the jaws during the daytime?

Avi: OP is using a chin strap, but the mouth guard helps with resulting jaw pain.

you can buy these on ebay. For the quickest shipping from Hong Kong they are $3.39 includes shipping and average 7 to 12 day delivery. I ordered my oximeter from overseas and it took it less than 2 weeks to arrive and that includes the mail carrier dropped it off at the wrong address. If you don't mind waiting a few extra days there are some selling for around $2.89.
avi123, watch the video in the link above, it shows the mouthguard doesn't allow anymore mouth leakage than a chinstrap would.

If you want to order the one discussed in the video here is the link.

Froggie, if the OP is using a solid (rigid) mouth guard with a chinstrap then how is it reducing the force between the jaws?chunkyfrog wrote:Avi: OP is using a chin strap, but the mouth guard helps with resulting jaw pain.

p.s. to stop your creature from jumping I can click the escape key instead of putting you on my foe list. Isn't it nice?
How would you fix this chair (I fell on it):

Gluing on the back is not enough, how about a 2 1/2" # 10 flat head screw into the back leg?
The chair was made in Indonesia.

Re: Using a mouth guard eliminated jaw pain caused by chinstrap
I know, that shocked me too. But I hate taping and chin strapping so much that I didn't want to wait for overseas shipping. I also ordered three of 'em (shipping doesn't go up when you order >1) because as the sleep tech said in his video demo, you might overboil or somehow botch one so it's good to get more than one. If this thing works, then I can order from overseas and wait a little longer.woodworkerjunkie wrote:That's why I'm ordering mine from overseas!StuUnderPressure wrote:Wow !
