Hi. I am a newbie to cpap. Only recently diagnosed (about a month.) My sleep doctor referred me to an ent to have my tonsils looked at. The ENT found that they were enlarged, my nasal passages were near closed and that I have a deviated septum. HE recommended fixing the deviated septum, removing my tonsils and adenoids. Has anyone done this surgery and knows whether their apnea has improved. I am currently on a setting of 12 and my sleep lab test showed 120 incidents. I am in my late 30's and weigh 225. I was also told that I need to lose weight as well to help my apnea.
Thanks

Here are a couple links you can click on for a ton of information on different surgical procedures and the experiences people have had with them as it relates to OSA:

LINKS to surgery, turbinates, Pillar, TAP experiences

and

Surgery Recommended

You'll quickly discern from all the info that you'll want to steer clear of the ineffective UPPP surgery, but the nasal surgery seems to help.

Nasal surgery (fixed septum and reduced turbinates) helped me breathe and has cut down on sinus infections. However, the surgery did not seem to help (certainly did not eradicate) my apnea. On balance, it was worth it.

I had a deviated septum repair many years ago. I was having major sinus headaches and sinusitis, sinus always stopped up, etc. There was a definite direct relationship between my feeling well and the deviated septum.

Repairing the deviated septum took care of all of that. Unfortunately, I can't address whether or not repairing this will help your SA. However, it seems logical that it would. The surgery, when I had it, was fairly simple, but took some time to recoup. Both eyes turned black along with the nose becoming the size of two baseballs!!! Looked worse than it hurt.
