Avi doesn't look very hard for reports from nasal pillow mask users showing a nice low leak. He doesn't want to see it because it doesn't meet what he perceives as a problem with that type of mask because he had issues with it and since he had issues then he assumes everyone in the world would have similar issues and should use the mask that he uses because since he does so well with it that everyone in the world should do well with it.
Even if you show him a leak report with minimal to none leaks he will find fault with it.
He has an unfounded prejudice against nasal pillow masks because he couldn't get it to work for him. In all honesty..the report he showed...they worked great for the first part of the night and then things went to hell...I am betting his mouth dropped open and he had significant mouth breathing when those big leaks were happening. Had nothing to do with the pillows and likely everything to do with open mouth and that is why he uses a chin strap with his "perfect" mask right now.
Bet it wouldn't be so perfect without the chin strap.
So.....again....take Avi's comments with a grain of salt or consider them hogwash...whichever suits you.
FWIW...I have a great example of a near zero leak line using my Swift FX nasal pillows here in this thread but he won't look because he has me "Foed" again but someone else might learn something. It is obvious that even with a 2X4 that Avi doesn't want to learn.

Thank you Pugsy, this is exactly what I was wondering about. I think I will give it a go.Pugsy wrote:I have used the Swift LT in the past (over a year till the Swift FX came out) and I have tried the Aloha (all of April) and the Aloha side things are much more comfortable than the Swift LT side things. I think that with the Aloha you will be able to put your face into the bed pillow much more comfortably. While I personally still prefer the Swift FX...the Aloha comes in at a real close second.KimberlyM wrote:Do you have the Swift LT too? I wonder if the straps are more comfortable on the Aloha. The side straps don't bother me until you get to where they connect to the pillow, I can't put my face in the pillow with that bar there.

Reply,
Well, these graphs show lots of jaggedness (oscillations) in the pressure and the leak graphs. Exactly what I am talking about a lousy treatment:
Who called such traces a Train Rack?
Ken, the SleepTechTN (RPSGT) posted the same problems about pillows masks.

Well.....perhaps you need to learn to evaluate the report from this machine.avi123 wrote:Well, these graphs show lots of jaggedness in the pressure and the leak traces. Exactly what I am talking about a lousy treatment:

1. Respironics jaggedness in that pressure line is entirely normal for the machine. Those little jagged saw tooth things are test pressure probes that is the trade mark of all Respironics auto adjusting machines. They are entirely normal..everyone has them that uses an auto adjusting machine. It is how Respironics algorithm works to test things.
2. Since mask vent rate is tied to pressure and change in pressure (even the little test probe) will affect the mask vent rate (remember Respironics machines report total leak so the vent rate is included) and we expect to see little tiny variations in the leak line when pressure changes even a little bit. Vent rate is responding to pressure changes. Entirely normal to see it. Only way to get a flat vent rate with this machine is to use straight cpap mode.
So you don't have a clue what you are talking about because you don't understand how the machine works and what it is reporting. This really is a near perfect leak report and the pressure jaggedness that you refer to is simply the machine working as it normally works.
I knew you would nit pick it with some idiotic comment. Go blow smoke up someone else's behind because you are totally off the mark with this one.

Re: Please compare the Aloha to the Swift LT for fit and comfort
Avi, if you reread my post, I didn't ask whether nasal pillows have a higher leak rate than other masks. My sole interest is in the comfort of the Aloha mask as compared to the Swift LT.

To each his own and the swift LT is a nice pillow system, but if you ask people that have both, you'll see most will probably say the aloha is a bit more sturdy and comfortable. Quieter, too.
