Yup. That bothers me as well. Usually gives me a headache the next morning. The idea of letting it run for a while without it on is one that I've used in the past as well as washing it (and changing the filters). I find that after a couple days at home I don't notice the smell anymore.
The smell is still there but fading pretty good. Probably working out what had soaked into the internal plastic bits. This is a good argument for a travel machine. But we just don't travel enough to justify the investment in a second machine.
