It kind of makes sense.
One bite of a cookie leads to two, and then three.
Which leads to a whole cookie, leading to a second, and a third.; maybe more.
The first bite is the key. Avoid that nasty little sucker!

Ditto the above, particularly the WheatBelly.

Read the whole book: Wheat Belly, by William Davis, MD.

I've been a lifelong grain/bread/carb addict, and that book got me off of ALL grains. And yes, the cravings for sugar and carbs disappeared not long after stopping all grains. I had eliminated wheat but continued eating rye because it didn't make my blood sugar go whacky....but was still fighting cravings of all sort. Quit eat that and bingo! After about a week, all cravings gone. I can sit in a restaurant and watch friends eat bread and desserts and I really, truly, honestly, don't care. Whatta concept!

I had a half slice of marble rye earlier today, with chicken salad and lots of veggies.
I noticed much lower cravings when eating rye vs. wheat bread.
Interesting!
That piece of wedding cake was an entirely different thing--I WANTED MORE!
---But I did not yield! The feeling finally drifted away after a half hour or so.

I think rye may have lower sugar content than regular bread. I don't know if that's enough to account for less cravings, though.

Additives can be ugly stuff.

I have been following some of the other threads here on "good calories, bad calories," and I have come to the conclusion that I must begin getting off carbs, wheat etc. so if anyone can suggest a menu type program I would greatly appreciate it. I have lived on SUGAR and BREAD way TOO LONG. HELP

Besides cravings, did anything else change for you? Reduction in joint pain, or gastrointestinal improvements?

Yes, no more upset stomach or queasy feeling after eating; no more heartburn AT ALL; no more need for taking any digestives (betaine-HCL) or wanting to drink/eat something creamy to quell the fire. No more bloated feeling after eating. Basically, no more feeling like the food in my stomach was not digesting properly....no more feeling of "everything is sitting there in a lump." Also, no more "crashing" and feeling shaky a couple of hours after eating and no more feeling like I need a nap after eating.

Granted, it wasn't JUST wheat that was causing all of that, but I had already eliminated sugars and MOST grains; it wasn't until I eliminated ALL grains that the above things changed...I still had the above symptoms when I was just eating Rye Crisp (no wheat in it at all). It was worse in the days when I actually ate bread, but then I often made a meal out of nothing but bread and butter!

YMMV.

Rye bread is still a grain that will raise blood glucose levels. Dr. Davis recommends NO grains. His plan is not gluten-free, it is grain free. He warns against the so-called gluten-free products because they contain things like rice flour, tapioca, potato flakes, etc. These are all high glycemic grains and make the blood sugar spike. I am ending my 2nd week doing the Wheat Belly program.... and I honestly don't miss grains. I have made some baked goods to satisfy that texture and chewiness...by using nut flours such as coconut or almond. Seed meal like flax also makes great replacements. I made a flax based breakfast recipe yesterday that was just like having a bowl of oatmeal....with cream on top!

The book is a real eye-opener....and when you realize what the agribusiness and food industries have perpetrated upon the public, it will make you MAD. The revelation of what has been done to wheat over the last 50 yrs is disgusting. Believe me, when you read the research and findings in the book, you will want to rid your and your family's use of wheat.

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

I'm going to be a contrarian here. I don't think wheat should be avoided unless it causes you something like pain. It does for me. I don't have celiac, but gluten intolerance. If I eat as much as 6 saltine-type crackers, the next day I have pain in my belly.

In the last few weeks, I seem to be more sensitive. I really can't figure out what I've eaten that has gluten in it.

I did drop the wheat bread many years ago but somehow I have drifted back to it. I will give the rye a go.

Within five days after cutting out gluten, yeast and dairy my belly had lost its "hard" feeling and my entire body felt 100 lbs lighter. It's difficult to put into words the sense of well-being I felt.

One month later, I have adjusted to new habits - no bread, sandwiches, or half and half in my coffee - but it hasn't been all that difficult. And I've lost 20 lbs without really trying.

The reduction in joint pain was dramatic! Google "carbs and inflammation". I never looked into wheat specifically because I cut it all at once.
