Pre-cpap, the only time I didn't snore was when I wasn't breathing.

Glad I met and married hubby--I never knew I snored because I had slept alone for decades!

Very loud--in all positions.

LOL, when I did my first sleep study, they said, well, you are right, you do snore. Apparently, if their opinion, along with family count, very loudly. You don't have to snore to have sleep apnea, it's just one of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea. You can also snore and not have sleep apnea. As far as your being told you snore when others say you don't audibly snore, that does seem a bit odd.
SleepingUgly wrote:Just curious about this... Even without CPAP, I don't snore audibly as far as any human can tell. Only on sleep studies am I regarded as "snoring". Is this uncommon?

Definitely. I even wake myself up snoring. When my CPAP pressure was too low before my new sleep study, I even snored on CPAP.

I'm guessing that what the instruments pick up in a lab (is it vibration or sound? I don't know) is more sensitive than what a person would hear.

I snored so loudly no one could sleep in the same room with me, let alone the same bed. If anyone thinks using cpap could be an impediment to intimacy, the alternative is asking someone to sleep in the same room with a freight train... at least cpap keeps me QUIET

My two brothers and brother-in-law were in the CCU waiting room and at this particular hospital, they had recliners. Our father/father-in-law was in the CCU. My two sisters and I were sitting in the hallway outside the CCU waiting room on the floor talking since none of us could sleep and we didn't want to disturb those who were sleeping. All of a sudden, about 5 or 6 people left the CCU waiting room and one guy says, "I can't sleep in there with those guys snoring". We walked in and lo and behold the guys snoring were my two brothers and brother-in-law. They had cleared the waiting room with their snoring. Two of the three (one brother and the brother-in-law) were later diagnosed with sleep apnea. Go figure.

Noises in my bedroom would wake me up with a start. Since I was sleeping alone, I could only figure that the noises were coming from me!

Yes, pre-CPAP I snored, but not very loudly - hubby said it used to lull him to sleep (unlike his Richter Scale snoring of a non-OSA). For the first few months on CPAP he'd wake up and worry I'm not breathing cuz he can't hear me, so then he'd wake me up to make sure

Cheers,
xena

Yes the first week I had my cpap my daughter did that to me. She came home from a night out at 3 am and woke me up in a panic because she couldn't hear me snoring! My room was near the front door and her room was at the back of the apartment so she hadn't heard the difference before.

Me? On sleep studies they say I do, but no human has ever heard it.

I should have made this a poll.

Or you could have exploding head syndrome--no noise, just the sound of noise.
