The CPAP Swimsuit Calender

Hey Guys!

SleepingUgly came up with this great idea.

I think it's a potential winner: if we do a bang-up job.

I suggest that the proceeds go to some very worthy charity or cause (can be sdb related), we can decide on that in a vote.

If we get a bunch of members to help with various phases, we could have a blast and actually make it happen.

We likely need:

1. Sponsorship / publicity assistance from a CPAP related company (not big bucks, but there will be some expenses)

2. Suggestions as to what the calender should show (must it be swimsuit? Should it include your partner? How about your dreams?, etc, etc.), and how far off the diving board we want to go with this.

3. The possibility of a cool-looking sleep lab (or two) participating, so we can have a great group photo of their facility and staff.

4. Rough sketch photos (or descriptions) of your sleeping arrangements, if you think they are unusual and/ or photogenic.

5. Volunteers to model the photos. Otherwise we will need to use models, and that will likely cost.

6. Anyone out there has--or know someone who has art direction experience?

7. Same with pro-level photography. Let's aim high.

8. We will need to go the online self print route, can be done as each order for the calender comes in.

9. People to help with fulfillment.

10. People to help with publicity. A spot in any major media outlet will kick-start us into overdrive.

I have friend who shoots video and photos for adult fetish websites. I am sure he can come up with more exciting and interesting shots.

I ran a trade show at one time for those folks - Their money all spends the same - and they were really nice people as well.

The popular media portrays people with sleep apnea and CPAP use as fat and/or dorky. I wanted it to seem cool and even sexy (but not in a leave-nothing-to-the-imagination way). I'm not sure that the diagrams of the Mallampati scoring criteria achieves that goal... Or even a picture of a sleep lab with some techs sitting around a computer (no offense...)

Also, while models may be beautiful and sexy, unless they really have sleep apnea and use CPAP, that would be a bit dishonest (e.g., I'd like to dispel the myth that only fat people have sleep apnea by displaying a thin model who doesn't have sleep apnea...).

My goal was to make it cool and beautiful, not to raise money, although I'm not adverse to the idea of raising money. I'm not sure that anyone would BUY this calendar. Hmmm, something to think about.

I guess I don't fit the mold - I am 6' and 180 pounds. I do not fit the "perceived norm"

This could also be an educational tool - "Hey do you have sleep apena"
Educate people about the signs and symptoms
Educate people about the positive benefits of xPap treatment
Break down people misconceptions about sleep apnea

There seem to be a lot of male athletes out there with it. So we oil them up and let them do their thing with their equipment in bed..... I am sure we could sell it.

Hey - I am no model, but I don't fit the stereotype of a CPAP user.

It's also a shot of my hacked mask, Mirage Quattro with the headgear from a Mirage FX nasal mask

1. You.

(I know, I know, only if you're in the damn thing.

And then only if we give you a discount)

2. Me

"You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you."

Wait a minute, Carly.

You mean it isn't?

3. Other members of CPAPtalk.

An easy sale.

We tell them that it can be used as an ASV.

Now we have to think outside the box if we want real distribution.

It doesn't have to be us as the models.

It doesn't have to be swimsuit.

But we should involve the R&R sisters early on.

Send free copies to every sleep lab in the country.

Ask them to post it in an obvious place.

Finally,

The Media.

SDB is a hot topic.

They want something . . . hot.

A good publicity package, and the services of a junior publicist, looking to make a name for him / herself.

(I have somebody in mind, he has done some major campaigns for big firms, now he's opening his own shop, and looking for projects.)

All we need is one decent hit: a TV spot, a small blurb in a major market newspaper or magazine.

I watched it happen with Maggie Hadleigh-West: she dropped exactly one 20 minute super 8 video tape in the mailbox.

But it was a hell of a video-tape.

.

more later, we can do this.

Sounds great, BlackSpinner.

When we decide what it is we would like to do here, and who would like to contribute or participate, he is someone we should talk to.

Do you still have any of those contacts?

Would you like to contribute to this project?

Anyone else out there have any ideas?

All are welcome, even if you think this is pointless, then let us know.

That's more than OK.

But just keep in mind that the what this is hasn't been settled yet.

What if this were a book telling new CPAP users "our" viewpoint of how to approach their journey?

Or a calender that acts as a gateway to this website, distributed at sleep labs?

Many, many ways to think "outside the box" (I hate that phase, btw) on this one.

imho.

I think most of the folks here feel the same way.

We'll try to produce some sample pages, let the members vote Yea or Nea, and take suggestions.
