ClimateLine went berserk?

Post by TalonNYC » Mon Nov 14, 2011 8:54 am

Hi folks:

The last 3 nights it appears that my ClimateLine and Hi5 have gone nuts. I wake up each morning and the tank is bone dry. This AM, I noticed that the air was waaaaay too hot coming into the mask. I felt the underside of the unit, and sure enough it was hot to the touch. Not so hot it burned me, but certainly not the "warm" that it used to always be.

The system is set to 65 degrees F, but it looks like it's getting quite a bit hotter than that.

I'm going to switch back to the Slimline hose for tonight, but has anyone seen this behavior before?

I have not. I wonder if it is the hose itself and the thermostat on it?

I'm thinking that's exactly what it is. Going back to SlimLine and the regular 1-5 "level-set" humidifier system for a bit.

How long have you had that climate line? Any chance you can get a replacement under warranty?

I think the only way to know for sure would be to get another ClimateLine hose and test it. If it doesn't happen again, it was the thermostat in the hose. Conversely, if it still happens it would be a problem w/humidifier.

Since one should probably dispose of any hose after 6 months (including ClimateLine) due to bacteria concerns, it's a good idea to have a spare on hand when replacement schedule allows.

Yup, I have a spare, going to try with the "normal" hose tonight and see if it happens again. If so, then it's definitely the humidifier. If not, then I have the spare CL hose I can try tomorrow night.

My S8 Escape was doing the same thing... the tank was dry in the morning. I finally had to get it replaced. Looks like you have a plan.

The offer still stands on your yankee hat.... you can still have an Astro hat.... or maybe I'll pitch in a Texan hat....

Talon: I'll be interested to see your report out on what happened to your humidifier last night. I was thinking, it probably wasn't the hose because the hose is after the humdifier. If your humidifier is empty, my thoughts are that the hose probably had nothing to do with it.

Slept last night without the ClimateLine (just the regular SlimLine tube).
Had the humidifier set at level 1

I had a little bit of a dry mouth this AM, but not that bad at all, really. Also, only 1/3 of the water I put in the tank was gone.
The tank was cold to the touch when I shut off the machine (usually I wait till the "cooling down" operation is done, but today I checked immediately).

The leak rate was up at 33LpM, so I have to watch that, but otherwise it appears everything was ok now.

Looks like the ClimateLine tube was causing the issue, very odd.

Anyway, thanks for checking in @Sherriff, much better night last night!

Talon,

Could there be a leak in the slimline hose that caused your leak rate to increase? You also said you had a spare climateline hose to try. Do you plan on trying that out to see what happens?

I thought I had read someplace that the climateline also controls the humidifier level too. I'm not 100% about that, but it could explain the issues. I guess one other thing you could try and turning the humidity autoset off for the climateline and controlling the heat of the hose and the humidity level independent of each other. Not sure if that would help or not, but just a thought.

I need to check the hose for leaks today before bedtime - it could very well be causing the leaks. As for ClimateLine, I'm going to see if I can keep the dry mouth to a minimum with the standard hose, and take it from there.

Thanks!

Don't hesitate to call Resmed. I called them once and though I got bounced around, they were very helpful. They appeared to know all about their products.

Thanks Sheriff, once I nail down the leak I'll give them a ring.

If the climate line is the cause it should be hot to the touch when in use.Unless its something in the connection causing the problem. One good thing a new hose is a lot cheaper then a new humidifier.
