What;s the worst tip you ever had from CPAPTalk?
Re: What;s the worst tip you ever had from CPAPTalk?
Worst advice? Don't let anyone except a trained professional change your pressure because you might damage your lungs (or whatever).

What vivid imaginations from the "Taper Hater" crowd!scottjf8 wrote: What if you lose power and can't breathe at all? What about aspirating?
Try this (go on, we'll wait!): with your machine OFF, hold the end of the hose in your mouth. Pinch your nose. Breathe in thru your mouth (and hose). Whaddya know, it's not as hard as you thought, huh? The difference MIGHT not even wake you up. But, for sure, losing power ain't gonna suffocate you, taped or not.
Aspiration? That happens much more often to patients using CPAP masks than to tapers. (Yes, there are far more maskers, of course, so one would expect that.) The result is often pneumonia. The only fatality I've found was a hospitalized patient with multiple sclerosis and wearing a mask. Since that's a risk while either masked or taped, you can't really use that legitimately as an argument against taping.
Got anything else?
The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

Re: What;s the worst tip you ever had from CPAPTalk?
Back when I was a newbie and still had my diagnostic numbers as part of my signature, Avi kept responding to things I'd posted about still feeling1000 times worse on cpap than I did before cpap. The thing he kept telling me was I couldn't possibly have apnea because my AHI = 3.5 and should just quit xPAP since it was making me miserable. Of course, Avi kept ignoring the fact that my diagnostic RDI = 23.1 included all the "hypopneas with arousal" that didn't count under Medicare rules, but did count under the Alternative Standard and that the diagnosis of moderate OSA was based on that RDI=23.1 rather than the AHI.DoriC wrote:Hey, what about me??? Remember when he didn't like it when I asked for your prayers instead of seeking professional help???? I'd be proud to be a member of a club with all the names mentioned so far!
Nan, I can't imagine a nice old lady like you causing trouble!!

Avi is a member here that tends to try and offend any of us ladies that disagree with him. Guess what...we don't get offended very easily.
Cheers and hope you all have a ton of little trick or treaters tomorrow night.

Re: What;s the worst tip you ever had from CPAPTalk?
Good grief! That taping was one of the best tips I ever got. My sleep doctor was really pleased to see that my AHI events decreased nicely with the use of the tape. The only problem I had was when my old "delicate" skin with started coming off with the tape. My doc told me to start using moisturizer (paraben free) which I did, being careful to keep it away from the mask area, and my skin is in good shape now.jonnybee wrote:LOL, works for me and a bunch of other folks here.scottjf8 wrote:Someone saying to tape your mouth shut.
Seriously, that can't be a good idea.

"Yoo-hoo, archangel, where are you?"
I can't believe we are 5 days into this thread and we haven't heard about the dire consequences of taping. Hmm, guess I will continue (happily) with my 2080el tape.
Worst advice? Baking nasal pillows in the oven to get them back into shape
Even worse, I baked all of mine in the same batch. Gross! And I didn't even have one good one left.
