I recall a new poster last month who strongly suggested that we should seek help from God rather than a cpap to cure our OSA. I'm pretty sure he was serious too. Although I'm not the most religious person, I'm pretty sure that's terrible advice for ANYONE to follow, religious or not.

The mention of a certain type of surgical tape (with a picture of the package) for taping the lips shut. I spent the next day wearing the adhesive off my cheeks. It was reminiscent of duct tape residue when it's been on something for a while. Way too sticky.

Taping is not the first thing to try, of course; but it can be a very good idea if chin straps and other solutions do not work to stop serious mouth leaks. Probably the best tip I acquired online (from an earlier board)...

Your mouth is for eating and should remain closed when sleeping to avoid mouth breathing and seriously ruining your cpap therapy. The tape is to train oneself to keep thy mouth shut and breath thru thy nose while sleeping.

And IF you seriously think this whole thing thru BC (Before Cpap) you stopped breathing how many times? So now you expect to breath 100% of the time but you should breath thru thy nose as that IS what it is designed for.

Think about when you are under water - should you open your mouth? There are times in life when thy mouth should be closed and sleeping is just one of those times.
Amen.

Can't disagree more... Humans aren't designed to breathe under water, but are designed to breathe air. What if you lose power and can't breathe at all? What about aspirating?

I tried nasal masks but mouth breathe, so I switched to a FFM and couldn't be happier.

Someone who does not have to tape passing judgement on those who do; like wise, someone else saying that taping can cause you to breathe in that terribly deadly CO2, kill you or even worse, make you drown in your own vomit. Again, bunk.

I'm not passing judgement... the thread title was "what's the worst tip" and I said what it was.

Hey Nan, maybe we could form a club. I bet avi would be willing to nominate more members and we all know he is ALWAYS right and never wrong. (puke, puke). Scrapper for sure, RG and Brenda since we defied his challenge a while back and told him to go.... well you know where.

Club.....CCO.....Cpaptalk Cursed Ones.

I have been called worse by better. No big deal.

Hey, what about me??? Remember when he didn't like it when I asked for your prayers instead of seeking professional help???? I'd be proud to be a member of a club with all the names mentioned so far!
Nan, I can't imagine a nice old lady like you causing trouble!!
