Sorry about your depression. I have lifelong depression and take meds. You may need a med adjustment, I would see my psychiatrist and tell him/her what's going on.
I don't like taking drugs for depression, but my life depends on keeping my mood stable.
You are doing the right thing trying different masks to find one that works. I have heard from some people who sleep on their stomachs, but I don't know how they work it out. Do you think one of those pillows with the cutouts for the mask would help? WalMart sells a pillow- L shaped- called the boomerang that is $20-.
I'm glad you are here on the forum asking for help. As has been said, for your CPAP therapy to be effective you need to wear the mask and use the machine all night every night. This just takes practice. I believe you said you take it off in your sleep without knowing. Some people lightly tape the mask to their face so it wakes them up when they start to take the mask off. The suggestion to wear the mask while awake to become more accustomed to it is a good one.
You really have two issues here- depression, which is made worse by ineffective therapy, but which also stands by itself and must be adequately treated by a psychiatrist.
The other issue is your compliance- you've got to work very seriously on that.
Good luck. Hopefully a stomach sleeper will post with some suggestions.

I sleep strictly on my stomach, flat-down, and I can't sleep in any other position. I use the Breeze w/nasal pillows, modified so that the exhaust vent doesn't get blocked when I plant my face in the sheets, and with added straps so that the mask is kept in place (my pressures are rather high). I also could not adapt to using a constant-pressure machine, so my doctor prescribed a bi-level machine. I should also note that it all also depends quite a bit on specific settings (like the trigger sensitivity on a ResMed machine).proctor78 wrote:Ok so I have had cpap since july but i still can only where it 2 hours a night... My question how bad was your depression before c-pap and did c-pap fix it..
I just cant believe sleep apnea can cause this bad of depression (I am already on depression meds) so I dont know what else to do HELP!!!!
I only where it 2 hours and I throw the mask off
All this means, there are a ton of factors that define the fine line between not being able to tolerate CPAP at all and it being the comfortable life saver that it is for many. You just have to believe that and work on making it happen. Help is here - ask and ye shall receive, just don't give up!

Re: Depression very bad help!!!
Do you think this type of mask might help for stomach sleeper? It comes with option of nasal pillows or mask. Assuming your not sleeping face down, it might work if your problem is your mask/hose getting tangled while sleeping. I imagine tethering the hose above the bed might help too. Different methods of doing that.

I sleep on my stomach very successfully - it just takes patience, tweaking, willingness to search for options and determination.

Sounds like some of the best lay advice you could have. I hope that you follow through; feeling depressed is not a good feeling to live with.Mary Z wrote:Sorry about your depression. You might need to consider, along with a different mask, taking a sleep aid temporarily. An antihistamine at bedtime might help; or you should be able to get a prescription for generic Ambien for 30 days; after that it's a real pain fooling with the insurance company. This may help you get a better start on a good night's sleep. Think temporary!proctor78 wrote:Software yes and when I do keep it on my apnea are .2 to .5
I do not use the ramp pressure is 10 and I am on cpap.
The doctor also put me on nuvigil friday it helps but I really want my cpap to work for me I dont like taking drugs..
I am thinking maybe I better buy a new mask and a big huge problem is I am an active sleeper and sleep on my stomach...
-You got some good advice in the other thread on masks for stomach sleeping: viewtopic/t69098/Stomach-sleepers-advice-needed.html. I'll add my $.02 worth: the cloth sleepweaver seems to work pretty well on side or stomach.. though I tend to sleep with my head cocked to the side somewhat.
-There are some very good suggestions on the forum about wearing the mask and CPAP during the day, for reading, TV or just relaxing/nappping. Give them a try. Maybe with some adjustments to your nighttime regimen and medication; and/or trying a different mask that works better for you, you could break through that 2-hour barrier that is so daunting. God Bless You,
