Original post below...
I just upgraded my XP laptop to an HP dv6-6140us running Win7 64-bit. Has anybody got a suggestion for using Encore Viewer or Encore Pro for this setup? If not for Win7, I also have a winXP64 desktop and I guess if I must, I can reanimate the XP laptop. However, I stole its 160GB SSD for my new HP laptop.
Edit: How I got Encore Viewer 2 moved to Win7...
Copy the C:\Programs\Respironics\ folder from your winXP machine to the Win7 machine. By copying that Respironics directory to the C:\Program Files (x86)\ directory in Win7.
Next find under user settings under local data applications in XP and there will be a Respironics folder there also which contains all your data.
Copy that second Respironics folder to the Win7 C:\ProgramData\ folder in Win7.
Make a shortcut to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Respironics\EncoreViewer2\EncoreViewer.exe" and Bobs your uncle.
So, that lets you see all your old data. However, despite getting the smartcard reader device driver installed (Win7 found it automatically) and also trying the same driver from Pugsy's link; Encore Viewer 2 will not be able to see the smartcard reader. So, that is where it stands.

Re: Encore Viewer 2 moving to Win7 64bit, Any suggestions?
There are a few who have moved Viewer from 32 bit to 64 bit computers. Involves copying the files and moving them instead of install off a disc. I don't remember steps but it has been discussed here not too long ago.

Re: Encore Viewer 2 moving to Win7 64bit, Any suggestions?
I have figured out how to do the copy and EncoreViewer 2.0.23.0 does indeed work in Windows 7. I will go into detail later when I have had more sleep. Now my next problem is getting the card reader to be recognized by EncoreViewer. Windows 7 is happy enough to find and install a driver and the card reader is recognized as a "Mako DT3500 SmartCard Reader". However, EncoreViewer 2 does not enable the download button. So, I can view all my old data but so far not upload any new data.

Mr Bill I assume that you have updated the DT3500 driver software to go along with the Win 7 64 bit??
If not... available here..http://www.ais-magnetic.com/e/download_ ... p?id=23390
If you already have... I have no clue why Viewer can't find the card reader.

Re: Encore Viewer 2 moving to Win7 64bit, Any suggestions?
Yeah, the card reader driver was no problem. I think its that I have this quad core llano 64-bit cpu laptop and the software is just not talking to any USB devices properly because maybe USB protocols are different with 32 bit CPU systems. Thats my best guess so far.
EV2 runs fine in Win7 but cannot be installed from the DVD. It says it needs an X86 cpu to install.

I've been unable to install the 64-bit. It hangs after saying it failed to install the client. This is getting very annoying. I guess I will be setting up an XP system just to keep track of sleep data. Doh!

Re: Encore Viewer 2 moving to Win7 64bit, Any suggestions?
I added how to move Encore Viewer 2 from an XP machine to Win7 to the first post. However, its a run and view only. Encore Viewer 2 cannot see the smartcard reader under Win7 despite the reader having a functioning 64-bit driver.
Edit: To this I will add: precisely the same situation applies for WinXP64 SP2.

Re: Encore Viewer 2 moving to Win7 64bit, Any suggestions?
I read through your posts and see you did as I did and ended up with the same solution. I keep my old HP 64 bit with XP just to download my reports with the DT3500 card reader - copy the files to our network - put the files on my new Win 7 machine to track and view reports. Sheesh.Mr Bill wrote:I've been unable to install the 64-bit. It hangs after saying it failed to install the client. This is getting very annoying. another possibility is to use a dual boot OS. if windows wont do this, then Linux/Ubuntu and Wine (to run windows programs). when I get CPAP software, Ill try to do it on Linux. the default Ubuntu installation should ask if you want a dual boot. you can also (I dont use Win7) probably right click on the programs exe file and set the compatability mode for XP.gasp wrote:I read through your posts and see you did as I did and ended up with the same solution. Re: Encore Viewer 2 moving to Win7 64bit, Any suggestions?
My hubby is a Linux/Ubuntu fan and already tried to talk me into this. I decided it was too much trouble since the only thing I would use it for was for my reports. Thanks for the suggestion though : ) I think I'll wait out the whole situation to the time when I get my new machine that comes with software that works seamlessly on Windows Xpeterg wrote:another possibility is to use a dual boot OS. if windows wont do this, then Linux/Ubuntu and Wine (to run windows programs). when I get CPAP software, Ill try to do it on Linux. the default Ubuntu installation should ask if you want a dual boot. you can also (I dont use Win7) probably right click on the programs exe file and set the compatability mode for XP.gasp wrote:I read through your posts and see you did as I did and ended up with the same solution. I have also tried this with WinXP64 SP2 and got the same results. The card reader again has a good driver, but EncoreView cannot see the SmartCard reader. As I recall, input output drivers have always been the weak link in moving any software.

Yes drivers are the weak link and it is ironic they are called drivers - they should be divers. OK, it's late, I'm getting silly now better go to bed LOLMr Bill wrote:I have also tried this with WinXP64 SP2 and got the same results.
