Have you had good results in the Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown, Brammpton, Caledon area?

Who do you see?

Would you recommend them?

Thanks

hoping to get advice from other Canadian posters. My original dme for 11 years just handed out cpap equipment. no mention of those things that make compliance possible.
Had to come here to learn about hoses, hose management, pillows and even mask types.
Latest experience was very poor.

Thanks in advance for your help. Need a new trustworthy, knowledable dme!

Dave

Sorry, Dave, I don't know. Are you looking for a place to buy your equipment from, or someone who can provide support as far as your therapy goes?

My vendors have nothing on display--it is hard to know what solutions are available. I find them by participation here o all of you make compliance easierwhilemy dme makescompliance harder.

I hope it doesn'tneed to be that way.

You are not alone Dave...most DME'S make compliance harder. I don't bother with mine, if I need supplies I either order from cpap.com (US) or clinicalsleep.com (Canada), and I get any problems I have solved by the wonderful folks on this forum.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Hi..I can recommend the best chin strap on the market if you need one...The Ultimate Chin Strap for Sleep Apnea (and one for snoring too)! The only one I found on the market that works and I have tried all from very cheap to super expensive. This one keeps mouth closed while at the same time keeping air passages open..very breathable, very pliable and comfortable too! Good Luck to you..it all just takes plenty of time and patience and trial and error.....M

i LIVE IN MISSISSAUGA. I checked out two of the CPAP suppliers. Was not impressed to say the least. They try to make a quick sale and did not had the knowledge. My suggestion is that use this forum, information from the internet in general BEFORE you visit the DME. I ended up training the RRT there on features available in S9.
I you go on the OHIP website, there is a link to all OHIP approved suppliers in toronto, mississauga oakville. I went to the oakville one which is associated with credit valley hospital, but it was no good.

If you dont have insurance coverage, or OHIP does not cover what you are buying then not need to go physically to a CPAP supplier.Get it from the internet
Hope this helps.

Bless you. My experience exactly. And they don't like criticism... which they might get some of when I'm tired and cranky.

Should have a website....rate my cpap dme!

Thanks mechanicalguy! I must say that Melanie who works at the firm I used last is incredible. However, they've pulled a switch. She has lost 1/2 her territory (half her pay?) Her co-worker who set the appointment was 20 minutes late when she walked in (traffic of course), rough in her handling of mask and such, did the fit with me sitting up in an armchair, and waffled. I had tried a full face mask (for 4 days; worst days of my cpap experience.) Got a nasal mask instead (it works; I mouthbreath sometimes), and a "simple" chinstrap--she wasn't going to sell me a complicated one.
(rough--1 strike; late....well....; sitting up--2nd strike; chinstrap--3rd strike (I am balding with no hair to hold the darn thing on top. Crazy glue?) I asked if she had ever worn a cpap mask. no. She has tried one on. Makes her an expert? And when the simple chinstrap didn't solve mouthbreathing she wanted me to go full face mask ($350 Cdn) No thank you! Told her I needed a dme rep that had experienced cpap and could suggest equipment better. No I'm not her friend!

Being compliant is hard work! It simply wouldn't be possible without help from you all here, and similar forums and newsgroups.

I coud rant for a while; probably a side-effect of OSA.

Don't forget you can buy online. I think cpap.com has the process of shipping to Canada figured out. I don't know how copays and such work out there, but sometimes it's cheaper to buy online here than to buy from a DME even with insurance.

I am in Ontario and, for the last 4 or 5 years, I have bought almost everything cpap related online mostly from cpap.com and cpapauction.com (cannot get Resmed products online from the US anymore). Cpap.com ships to Canada via Canada Post - no duty or customs costs and the delivery charge is reasonable. The equipment is much more reasonably priced than here in Canada as well. You do need to have yor prescription on file with them to get machines or masks but that's no problem - as long as you have your prescription.

Between this forum and cpap.com I am doing well with my therapy. Getting any help from a provider here was practically impossible and the cost of equipmewnt was outrageous.

My extended health plan will not cover anything bought online from the US but the cost is so much less that it doesn't matter to me.

I got mine from:

CPAP Direct
123 Edward Street, Unit 705, Toronto, ON M5G 1E2 CANADA Phone : (647) 317-3762

They have been very good, got me the machine I wanted and have checked in every 2 weeks since I got my machine 2 months ago.

Guest: you don't happen to work for CPAP Direct, do you?

So. Do they sell mail-order and how do their prices compare to those from CPAP.com? If you've been a walk-in customer, how is their service?
I'm workin' on it.

I've had good luck with the local office here in Cambridge for Respiratory Health Care Solutions. The local franchise owner/operator was very helpful with both the mask and machine and was supportive of my taking over my own adjustments after she got over the initial shock. I would up using a loaner S9 AutoSet for 2 months while we worked trying to get the APAP paperwork put in place and never did she push to get things resolved quickly. She also arranged to get me a shrink wrapped copy of the ResScan software from the factory rep when I requested a formal copy even though she knew I was already running the software.

In the end I was able to get the S9 AutoSet but got no help from the sleep doctor and paid for it out of pocket. My long term health was more important to me than getting the government to help pay for part of the machine if it meant getting an inferior machine. I know one of her colleagues at another branch somewhere in the area was equally helpful for another person as well. In the end I found her costs to be fair, especially knowing what we wind up paying here in Canada since companies like ResMed work very hard to protect the geographical market and the inflated prices.

I have purchased a replacement cushion for my mask from her and was equally happy with that transaction.
