VISITING CHINA
I am planning a trip to China from Canada in October 2011. I will not be using my CPAP on the plane but will have it in my carry on. Is there anyone who has travelled to China with a CPAP? Should I expect any problems at the airport security checks? I have had no problems travelling within Canada or the USA but China may be a whole different story. Also, can anyone recommend a good converter and adapter to take along with me? Thanks!
Re: VISITING CHINA
What city?
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Bejing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Xian, Chengdu
Re: VISITING CHINA
I don't know about Hong Kong, but the other cities in mainland China are 220. I was there 6 years ago and I bought something while I was there, which I would recommend. Just ask at the hotel and they should be able to tell you where to get one.
If you're CPAP says 110 to 240V on the back of it, then you just need a plug adapter.
Have fun, I love it there, my wife is from Shanghai.

Re: VISITING CHINA
BTW, the airports shouldn't be a problem, in 5 visits I've never had bags checked there. Besides, with the amount of American travel there, I'm sure they've seen plenty of CPAPs.
Wish I was going, I love it there.

Extra filters! At least at night you will get to breath clean air!

Ameriken - thank you so much for the responses! It says 100-240V on the back of my Redmed Autoset S8 so I guess I will only need a plug adapter and no converter? Thanks also for the tip from hobbs to bring a clean air filter. I am writing it down on my list right away - I am sure I would not have thought of that.

That is correct, just the adapter. Have fun!FOSSILFERN wrote:Ameriken - thank you so much for the responses! My wife and I will travel to Shanghai on the 7th August 2011. I will be carrying my VPAP. I have been told I cant use it on the plane as it is such a new model they dont have it on their list of approved machines. I wasnt going to anyway. On my return is anything warrants reporting I will do so.

If you are using S8, you don't even need to buy the plug adapter.
The following pictures shows the standard power cords in China. Same with what you use in US, I suppose.
Voltage is 220V 50Hz.

Welcome. It would help if you fill out equipment profileFOSSILFERN wrote:Ameriken - thank you so much for the responses! It says 100-240V on the back of my Redmed Autoset S8 so I guess I will only need a plug adapter and no converter?
I have the same S8 autoset and you don't need any converter to use internationally. I've taken it with me business trips throughout Asia, without any problems at all. Some suggestions that you might find helpful for both domestic and international travel:
1. Luggage tag for your cpap carry-on. You can buy on
cpap.comhttps://www.cpap.com/productpage/medical-identi ... pment.html
2. Print out copy of TSA guidelines as backup proof that it doesn't count as extra luggage

3. Bring a copy of your Rx - to show TSA or in case you need to purchase equipment while away

4. Gear to take along include extra hose, filters, mask and power gear (see below - including extension cord, adapters)

Belkin makes a nice small travel size surge protector if you decide to bring one: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_ ... elkin+mini

Re: VISITING CHINA
Hi
I have just returned from a 2 weks trip in China and visiting 6 cities (beijing, Shanghai etc) This is my 3rd trip to China and I have visited all the cities you mentioned. No problem with anything except you might need a power bar to make life easier for you.
In most cases there will be not enough power outlet and a power bar has proven to be very very useful
You do not need:
1. Humidifier in summer - I only my S9 without the humidifier unit
2. you do not need plug converter - in China they provide also US/Canada power outlet besied their local standard.
3. you do not need to worry about volatge - all CPAP have dual voltage - able to operate anywhere
Airline and airport security are knowledgeable on CPAP
Frankly I have met more problem using my Thinkpad and Ipad due to lack of wireless signal in most hotels - they supply mostly LAN cable which Ipad is unable to use
