Thanks to all my friends here for your affection and support. The situation is so complicated and there are so many problems to address without trying to cause more problems. The latest diagnosis is Polymyalgia Rheumatica, an auto immune disease, that made him almost comatose with low BP at a dangerous level. They think those episodes were caused by the PR too but they're not sure. The decision was made to use corticosteroids which may compromise the wound healing but is a necessary evil right now. They gave him an emergency IV dose at 6PM tonight and at 7PM he opened his eyes for the first time in 3days and his pain was much less. The decision was also made not to use his cpap. He's hooked up to so many wires and equipment that it's not feasible right now. He's on a step-down unit and on oxygen so he's being monitored 24hrs and he's breathing comfortably. There are other complications but this is enough to digest for now. If Mike is more alert tomorrow I will tell him of all the prayers coming his way! I'm grateful.

Aww, Dori, I just checked in and saw this thread. I'm so sorry to hear of this setback for Mike, but I'm glad to now read that he's awake and feeling a little better, and he's being monitored closely. Be sure to take care of yourself, or we'll be making chicken soup for you.

Sending love and hugs to you and Mike. xoxo

He is so lucky to have you Dori!!! Be good to yourself -- you deserve it and after all it ultimately will help Mike so that you can be strong for him.

I am sorry of yours and his struggles, but know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh Dori, such awful, mixed news--so sorry for this new twist in Mike's situation. Wish I had the power to bring healing and comfort but that is far outside my human abilities...like everyone else, both of you are in my prayers. I wish you both strength and courage in dealing this latest wrinkle in your journey together. Take care Dori!

I'm glad he opened his eyes today. It must have been a big relief to you when he did. I hope he will improve quickly.

Hang in there, Dori. My mom had PR with temporal arteritis but eventually the symptoms calmed down. It's a tough thing but it can get better.

Dori --

I've been watching constantly for updates and was happy to see one.

I hope you are taking good care of yourself, too, during this difficult time. Please make sure you do.

Prayers and good thoughts will continue for both you and Mike. We are all pulling for him and sending you both strength and healing vibes.

Dori and Mike
I was going to ask our friends here if anyone had heard from you if there was not a message this morning. What a relief when I saw your smiling face and read your message. Mike is going to pull through we just know it! The dread you were feeling will slowly return to optimism and relief. My hubby had necrotising faceitis (flesh eating disease ) so I do know where you and your family have been the last few days. Remember every one of us will keep sending prayers and hugs for a wonderful outcome for Mike, you and your family.
Love ya
Nan

Dori & Mike,
You are on my prayer list every night.Hope he is well enough to come home soon. I know it is very tiring when our spouse is in the hospital. Please try to get some rest while he is being closely monitored.
