it finally happened!!!
after much tweaking of pressures, masks etc., in the last 2 weeks or so I have
finally started to get great scores. I've been on pap since nov 10. I never thought I would see an ahi below 3, and now they are starting to be below 2 or 1 pretty reliably, and last night was 0.1 I can't believe it!! I certainly feel better than before pap but clearly I have a ways to go. I am still very yawny on many days and still want to take naps more often than I'd like to admit. I now wake up during the night but go right back to sleep vs getting up 3 times/night. I no longer fall asleep every time I sit down although I am often sleepy in the late afternoon. (But don't "normal" people take naps sometimes too?) I am way less irritable now. My epcot score was 20 at the time of my sleep study and I know I am a lot better than that now. I know that the numbers aren't everything (really I do) but at least if I feel they are good than I know that I am doing my best to help myself. I am still hoping to feel more rested and more energetic as I go along.!! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I never could have lasted this long without the great folks on this forum.

What a pretty picture that was, bayou!
Bet the smile on YOUR face was even bigger.
You should be very proud of the way you're handling your own therapy so well.
Good for you!

Good job.
Yes, kind of a thrill to see it.
I do good to get below 1 AHI and I think maybe once I have had a 0.1 AHI. Never had a zero. Doubt that I will but it doesn't matter.
It is nice to have that validation though. Helps our mental attitude and the mind is a powerful drug.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.

Did you mean Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS)?
If yes, what is it now?
You can check it here:
http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/epworth.html
IMO, , the low AHI that you are getting now do not predict that you'll be free of residual daytime sleepiness in the future in spite of using a CPAP compliantly. In addition to low RDI (Respiratory Distress Index = AHI + RERA), to be below about 5, we also need the ESS to be below 10, and not to suffer from heart problems, Diabetes, and Depression.
Good Luck!

yes avi123, it is the ESS. Sorry I just couldnt remember the name of the test!!
I dont have heart disease or diabetes. I could knock off some pounds. and sometimes I do feel depressed, but it seems mainly seasonal. I am clearly hopeful about shedding more of the daytime sleepiness. I dont know what the ESS is now but I'll find it and check. I am not falling asleep at traffic lights or in conversations etc anymore!!

Way to Go!!!!
I'm dreaming of the day I get below 1, so this gives me hope that it is indeed possible.

Thanks for your note!! I received my new Resmed Autoset last Thursday. My AHI readings were: .4, .1, .6 and .1. I was so happy, but a little embarrassed to post anything here because I feel bad for the folks that struggle so much. Hope your sucess continues!!

Gabe, go back to your thread "fixed pressure or auto pressure".
I gave a summary there of what I did (but remember it has taken me since last november, and I have had a lot of discouraging days) and there is some discussion about this question that you may find helpful. I think the mask is an important factor as well. I've had a quattro FX for maybe 6 weeks now and it is pretty comfortable and not too leaky for me. I dont see your equipment at the bottom of this post and I dont think you can underestimate the importance of the mask.

Shout it out girl! If I ever get an AHI that low I sure plan to make some noise! I am getting below objective on a somewhat regular basis though and that's a stroke for me.

thanks guys!! I never never thought it could happen....and as I said, I am not where I want to be yet, but this makes me think I might get there....and i guess the bottom line is how you feel...(and I could feel better even though I am so much better than pre-xpap)
and Gabe I CAN see your equipment on the forum post, just not when I was "replying."
