Right, "a...bunch (of coconuts)" is singular as LinkC pointed out. That means one.

Cool jerk, cool jerk, cool jerk, cool jerk

We know a cat who can really do the cool jerk
We know a cat who can really do the cool jerk
This cat they're talking about
I wonder who could it be
'Cause I know I'm the heaviest cat
The heaviest cat you ever did see

When you see me walking down the street
And they clapping and they speak
All the business they wish to whisper it

But they know I'm the king of the cool jerks

Cool jerk, cool jerk, cool jerk, cool jerk
Ah ha ha

Look at them guys looking at me like I'm a fool
Ah but deep down inside they know I'm cool
I said now,
I said now the moment of truth has finally come
When I'm gonna show you some, some of that cool jerk

Now give me a little bit of the drums by himself here
Now give me a little bit of bass with those eighty-eights
Ah you're cookin, mmmmmm you're smokin
Now everybody, I wanna hear you ah-h-h-h-hh

Can you do it can you do it
Can you do it can you do it
Can you do it can you do it

Cool jerk, come on people, cool jerk
When you see me walkin down the street
Then you think twice and then the next beat
On the chance that they don't make it work
Cause they know I'm the king of the cool jerk

Cool jerk, cool jerk
Come on people can you do it

Can you do it, can you do it
Can you do it, can you do it
Can you do it, can you do it
Can you do it, can you do it
Can you do it, can you do it

My understanding is that LinkC's family amassed quite an empire out there in the Pacific as wealthy coconut ranchers. So of course a man like that is going to be our go-to man for all things coconut related.

Thanks, Link!

Darn straight. I have encountered a huge amount of hostility on this forum. OSA'ers are an irritable bunch, guess its all that chronic sleep deprivation?

I have been sitting here in a hospital room for the past 6 days waiting on my 87 year old mother who had her second stroke. To pass the time I serf the net on my lap top. I usually check out this forum a couple of times a day just to see if I can learn something or to see if I can help someone with my limited knowledge.

You say you have "encountered a huge amount of hostility on this forum". I say BS. The people here will go out of their way to help anyone who is asking for it. Some are very sweet with their answers others are more blunt and to the point. You ask for opinions and you get them here.

This is all free advise. In my experience it is much better advise than I got from my Doctor and DME. Yes some of us get out of line from time to time but for the most part it is harmless.

So from one asshole to another I say to you "mellow out". Life is short!

Not to be too pedantic, but shouldn't that be "I've Got a Lovely Pair of Coconuts"?
LoQ, I've always found you to be a mystery as to your gender?

from NotMuffy:

"So wait a minute.

Does he mean that most of me is a jerk, but that some of me is not a jerk?

Or most of the bunch is a jerk?

If so, is that one jerk?

Can jerk be plural, like a moose?

Are moose jerks?

Do moose jerk(s)?"

What was the question?

I wanna know what happened to the moose jerky? Yummy.

As explained in Gregg Reference Manual, the word "most" may be singular or plural depending on the noun it refers to, which noun "often occurs in an of phrase that follows."

In the sentence forming the topic title, "most of you are a bunch of jerks," the "you" is plural and therefore "most" is also plural--thus the use of the plural verb "are."

Likewise, collective nouns such as "bunch" can be considered either plural or singular, depending on whether the writer wishes to stress the group acting as a unit or the group acting separately. As Gregg explains, "use the singular form of the verb" if "the group is acting as a unit," but "if the members of the group are acting separately, use a plural verb."

So the question becomes one of whether we are acting separately as jerks or as a unit of jerks. My understanding is that we all have collectively agreed never to form a consensus on anything other than never forming consensuses. As a group, we collectively eschew groupthink and have all taken the nonconformist oath together in unison.

Therefore, I proclaim the grammar of the title of the thread perfect, and I shall wear the label "one of a whole bunch of jerks" proudly.

English grammar is wack.

You people (or should I refer to you as jerks?) are an amazing bunch! First of all- prayers to Kempo and his Mom.

I don't know how you all do it- quotes within quotes, etc. And that Liz Taylor quote- sounds like something Gandi would have said.

For others struggling with jnk's qoute "English grammar is wack."

Wack is (Meriam Webster)
slang
: not up to the mark : lousy, lame <while there are skilled moments, there are wack ones as well — Danyel Smith>
Examples of WACK

1. <that movie was wack, even by the standards of popcorn flicks>

Origin of WACK
probably alteration of wacky
First Known Use: 1984

Thank you to all of you for sharing all your opinions, knowledge, prayers, to those in need.
I think you're all (myself included) the best bunch of jerks I've ever known.

Here's another thought. Since the O.P. purports to hail from south of the Mason-Dixon line, he likely meant to say,

"Most of y'all are a bunch of jerks,"

which is one of the advantages those who speak German, Greek, or Southern enjoy: no ambiguity about whether one's referring to you singular or you plural.

If that is the case, Bubba meant to impugn us collectively. However, the distinction between the North and the South has blurred somewhat since the War of Northern Aggression was concluded by the treachery of Gen. Lee at Appomattox, so he might just be an assimilated Son of the South.

Or maybe his moniker is just another ruse.

IF the sentence had said "Most of you are IN a bunch of jerks", or "most of you FORM a bunch of jerks", or even "most of you are OF a bunch of jerks" (as you phrased it), I would agree it was correct. But he didn't.

And how does a "bunch" differ from a "whole bunch"?
