The Chat Room Is Being Spammed By Numbers

Most of them are fake names not the real person an imposter.

wow i was in chat under a shortend screen name as dreamy my real screen name is dreamylioness regestered and guess wht i came in the chat room mouthing and it was not me ! then i got told to shut the f up . because i let every one know tht it was an imposter . will this maddness ever end ?

well someone was banned and it really has meant the site is being attacked more and more

a ban really seems to mean nothing to him or the owner of this board

Anyone know how to set chat to ignore "ignores/unignores", some script kiddie is playing games, not that I care too much. First day on this site, and I caould just move on, but if there is any easy way, it could be interesting.

chat is in total chaos and has been taken over by a person who is banned from this site

Ok, new to site, just entered your chat and was "attacked" with popup "ignores/unignores". Some other guy was engaging the troll, which is always a bad thing to do. I just closed the window and moved on. Thanks.

if you have questions, you can either search the forum (I like advanced search for several words in what I am looking for) or start a new thread with them. This is a very active board and many people willing to help others out.

I am not normally one to complain, but, I felt the need to reply to the responses to my earlier post.

And, if it were easy to use Ignore and be done with the spammers, I would. I do use it, and not only does it appear to block PM's from the ignoree, but it also blocks the room posts from said ignoree. But, what makes that difficult, if not impossible, to deal with is when the spammer keeps leaving the room and coming back every few minutes. And, it is getting real annoying real fast hearing the room entrance/exit noises every 20-30 seconds when those 5-numbered names come in and out. And, last night, there were 10 of those 5-numbered names in the room at one time. That is what is very disruptive in and to the room.

I go into another online chat room on a regular basis, for people who have had weight loss surgery. That room, and the organization that runs it, had a similar policy of letting anyone come in, whether they had a registered name or not. Earlier this year, for this same exact reason, they had to switch the room policy to only allow in registered users. That cut the spammers and room trolls right out.

I know changes are coming to the chat room, but they just can't happen fast enough.

I came in last night to pick up a PM and saw so many people in chat and looked to see what was happening. Imagine my eyeroll when I saw that I was in the chat room!!! LOL. I logged in as something else and watched and found myself laughing at the stupidity of the variations of "madalot" that came in and said totally stupid things. When everyone pretty much ignored the fake Madalots (and all its variations), the troll decided to start impersonating people that were in the room.

My mood was good last night and I was able to find the humor in THAT situation. I also watched Padacheek handle it when SHE was being impersonated and her doppleganger was being totally stupid. Karen, that was an inspiration to me, watching you mock your impersonator. You go.

And DreamyLioness did a bang up job, too, when her user name was duplicated and the imposter tried to get her hackles up.

I could imagine all the "real" people in their doing a serious eyeroll.

Anyway -- I DO think the numbers thing needs to be fixed and hope there does come a time that people cannot steal members user names.

I am very sorry someone's first impression of our site was such a negative one. I am hoping dad2gr8kids will stick around and use the forum part of the site as he needs or desires. Although I am very reluctant to come to this conclusion, I have decided that my own personal wish is that chat just be shut down. I am a regular in chat. I enjoy chat very much (when functioning properly). I would hate to see chat go. But now it is not performing it's intended function-- to be a place where new folks (and old!) can come for advice/support/encouragement directly related to cpap. I am interested to see what the powers that be decide to do, whether to try to fix chat or just abandon it altogether. If a fix is tried, I do hope it will work.... but at the moment all that is going on is an uncontrollable train-wreck fascination that only feeds "Moderator's" hunger for attention. This is very sad for me, as I was much involved in chat and found many friends there.

It need not be shut down, Snug. After the change is made, you can check who's there before you sign in. If they're people you like, join; if not, ignore and move on.

You can do that now, check to see who is in there. Hover over "X chatting live" and it shows who is in there. Just a helpful tip for those still trying to use chat.

I've enjoyed several pleasant chats with Madalot, snug, padacheek and others. I hope a solution for chat other than shutting it down can be found.
