Does a hose cozy really prevent rainout?
Re: Does a hose cozy really prevent rainout?
You can't beat a hose cover to beat rainout ,before I got one,it would rain all the time

Re: Does a hose cozy really prevent rainout?
I have been using a CPAP for more than 10 years and occasionally had rainout. My wife's aunt knitted me a hose cover about 5 years ago. I have never had any rainout since. I just got an S9 with a Climate Line hose this month. I do use a lower setting on my humidifiers. I used a setting of 2 on my Respironics M-series Auto with C-Flex and a setting of 75 degrees with the S9 and Climate Line. I also keep my humidifier lower than my bed.

I use a F&P Icon it comes with a heated hose so no rainout I think 1 Day they may all come this way.

Mine seems to work just fine. I run the humidifier on 5 (highest setting). I had some issues with rainout, but my first night using the cozy fixed it right away. I got the one cpap.com offers, in a stylish blue (wife said no to the cammo one).
Good luck!
Good luck!

I've found that the hose insulators work well and can be easily transferred to your replacement hoses etc.

The plastic sandwich bag trick is what I've used to easily drop-push a hose through a fleece hose cover. Works perfectly.DocWeezy wrote:Trick for making it easy to thread hose through: Put a small plastic bag (sandwich baggie) over the end of the hose and voila! easy and quick threading. This is an old trick I use when threading curtains onto curtain rods and other things like that--the bag adds a nice level of slipperiness and makes it quick and easy.
Yep, that would work, too.lktnky wrote:I use a silky drawstring bag on one end of the hose so it will slide thru the cozy.
Thanks, both of you, for mentioning ways to easily put a hose through a hose cover.

Re: Does a hose cozy really prevent rainout?
My cat loved to play with my hose, no matter what types of fabric-based covers I tried using. I went through several claw-punctured hoses before I tried something radical- I bought one of those water pipe insulation tube things at Home Depot in the biggest size (I think 1.5 inches wide, and it's 6 ft long). Although it's not really flexible, I've learned how to adjust it properly so it doesn't bother me. (It ends up being an upside-down 'U' shape from the machine to my face). No rainout at all. Best part: kitty doesn't bother with it! It works awesome for me.
Re: Does a hose cozy really prevent rainout?
I made my own cozy out of "Saskatchewan Roughriders" green polar fleece that I found as a remnant. I use big elastic bands to hold both ends. My blower is way below my head and I have my humidifier quite high. No rain out since I made the cover.

I made a hose cover out of remnant fleece to help lower the vibratory snore rate. Unfortunately it has added considerable weight to the hose. I find it tilts my mask if it's not positioned just right.

Hi--yes I have a wonderful mirco fleece hose cover--I got it from PAD A CHEEK.com---Karen makes wonderful products!!! I bought the hose cover along with matching straps covers for my Swift LT. I also keep my machine lower than my head. It is sitting on a small plastic step stool--it is the perfect size for my machine.
I have 4 cats. So when I take off my mask--I immediately hang it up on the back of the door to our linen closet with a simple over the door hanger with several hooks. I hangs my mask and hose and no chance the cats are going to get at them all day while I am at work. Helps them stay dry too when you hang them up!
Hope this helps,
Carrie

I'm a pack rat...it's so painful to throw anything still good away. When my Hubby bought a new mattress pad, of course I kept the old one as it might come in handy. And made two hose covers from the padded part with material left over for something else! My hubby gets lots less rain-out!
Good luck...you have lots of ideas to try!
