P R One Beeping - Bad SD Card?
Hi Folks!
Occasional forum visitor Capt Midnight here with a vexing issue. My 5 month-old PR-1 chirps a rapid beeping noise each time I re-insert the SD card. I've tried all the usual tricks (cleaning the card contacts with an eraser then cleaning with ethanol - aka vodka) but nothing seems to work. I can't tell if the card might be full of data, or corrupted, or maybe this beeping nuisance has another cause.
I'd like to re-format the sd card, however the only card reformat program about which I know is the Mycpap program, which is years old, and is likely not for the newer SD pappian programs.
And, to my questions. Have any other OSA patients hereabouts had any similar PR-1 beeping issues? And if so, what might be some pathways to solutions?
Alternatively, is there a downloadable (and bug-free) data card maintenance program available which can reliably re-format an SD card for a PR-1.
Thanks muchly in advance! - - Capt Midnight (Tom)

Gosh....why not just buy a new SD card? They are certainly inexpensive enough.....
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Which is precisely what I did, earlier this AM I ordered one from CPAP.Com.
But that brings up another question, would any old SD card work? I'm somehow assuming that the cards require formatted info, but if not, what the hey, I'll head off to the Staples.

I understand that any SD card will work but I have not tried another one.
I format my card once in a while. I do it with the card in the reader and go to "Computer" from "Start" menu,
I find the right removable disk (in my case it's "Removable disk J"). I then right click on the disk and select "format". It does it in a jiffy!

I just ran into this problem above with our same backup M Series that we've been using for a long time because it gives slightly better data. We followed howjan's instructions, beeping/flashing stopped but card did not record overnight data even after reformatting with MyCpap.org. I tried a new unused card but it kept beeping when I inserted it so today I tried the old card we use in our original machine, it accepted it with no beeping so we'll try it tomorrow for hubby's nap and see if it records. This probably won't help you with the PR but maybe there's some connection?

Maybe ignorance IS bliss? Or - it was just dumb blind luck but I bought a 2 gig SD card at Radio Shack that was the same size and shape as my PR S1 SD card and just inserted it in the PR S1 and it downloaded from the S1 and uploaded to EncorePro 2.2.14.0 just fine.

Re: P R One Beeping - Bad SD Card?
You need to buy a fast card. I can't tell yo how fast but not all the cards will work in the PR System One
I ordered a standard card and it never worked even if I formated it several times in all the possible ways, I copy in it the information I found in the original card, nothing worked.
My only theory is that the card I bought was not a fast one. You know (and now I know) there are the standard cards and the fast cards (there are even different levels of speed for the cameras ) and yes Slinky you was very lucky I wish I was too. Now I have a spare card I can't use, so no spare card

Re: P R One Beeping - Bad SD Card?
Are there any clues in the LCD window when this beeping occurs?

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Gumby asks...Are there any clues in the LCD window when this beeping occurs? ...
Unfortunately, no. The LCD said something to the effect that there is a data card error, and to try reinserting it. (which I did a half dozen times.)
Interestingly, I later tried formatting the PR card as Hawthorne suggested, and that went just fine. (I just used Windows to reformat the card.) It's back in the machine, and no more beeping. I'm guessing that the data saving to the card during the night, and the data transfer in the AM will work fine as well.
For some odd reason, I thought that there was more to the xPAP data card formats than just a simple Windows format. Apparently not, but I'll post on this thread if there are any "issues".
Thanks all for suggestions and input.

Re: P R One Beeping - Bad SD Card?
Just be careful in that there is now and SDHD card that looks exactly like an SD card - but will not work in a device that takes a regular SD card - nor will it work in a regular SD card reader. You can read and write to an SD card in an SDHD reader, but not an SDHC card in an SD reader or device. It's crazy - I have two digital cameras - the older one takes SD cards, and the newer one only takes SDHC cards.rosacer wrote:You need to buy a fast card.
Whoever invented that one really wants to confuse people. I suspect a CPAP will only take an SD card. My system one will work with blank SD cards from my old camera. SDHC is usually for 4 GB or more. So you can go to 16 or 32 GB at really fast speeds - but you have to look closely to see which device it will work on.

How can I know which kind of card do I have?
It says : Sandisk 2.0 GB SD That's the only information I have and as I told I tried to format it in all the ways I was able to no avail. Somebody had told I needed a fast card for the System One, I have no clue now. I can't test it on a camera my camera uses another kind of card. Each time I try to put the card in the machine it starts beeping without stop.

Re: P R One Beeping - Bad SD Card?
Ok I have a thought then. 1st let me say, I don't have a PRS1 but I do have an M series which I have had a theory on before (for Dori).Captain_Midnight wrote:Gumby asks...Are there any clues in the LCD window when this beeping occurs? ...

I have never seen a M -card go bad but what I have seen is a card get corrupted where it couldn't not be read. The fix was to format the card again. I wonder if that is what happened in this case?
How can the card get corrupt, it was just working?
For those that remember the days of the floppy disks and removing the floppy while it is being written to the fix was to wait for the drive lite to go out. I don't know if the SD has a lite or not but remember it can be corrupted by either the machine or the computer. Esp. if the computer has not dis-mounted the SD card either by Encore or the Windows Explorer.
I know with USB drive there is an icon in the lower RH corner (I forgot what its called now) that tells you if its OK to remove it. Don't know if there is something for the SD card.
So those are my thoughts. I hope that helps.

Re: P R One Beeping - Bad SD Card?
Oh My, I'm embarrassed to say I left out one important fact in my story. After Mike shut off the machine in the morning as usual and the beeping/flashing blue lights began, I noticed that the plug that goes into the brick that goes to the wall plug had been disconnected sometime during the night(looking at the data it seems to be after 2hrs of sleeping, he slept 8hrs) and so I thought that was a simple problem to just reconnect it but the beeping continued when I turned it on again and until I followed howjan's instructions. So Gumby, I'm thinking the card did become corrupted while it was trying to record data when the brick was disconnected. I did reformat it and tried again the next night but no data. So today I'll try our other card and see what happens. It may be the whole data modem is corrupted which I see can be replaced on cpap.com for $65.https://www.cpap.com/productpage/m-seri ... odule.html

Re: P R One Beeping - Bad SD Card?
Continuing with our episode of the invasion of the beepers from heck...
As confidently reported yesterday, I reformated the sd card, the bleeping beeping stopped, and life's good.
Or so I thought.
There were no usable data from last evening; and as an additional insult, Windows asked to format the card again.
I now suspect that a good card just went bad. Not surprising, I remove it daily, and I'll put it in pockets etc generating who knows how much static electricity.
So today I'm off to buy a new sd card. I'll get a "fast" one, 2 gb, and make sure to avoid the lookalike sdhd card.
Since there is an outside chance that the sd reader is the offender, I might pick up a new one of those as well.
Your intrepid sd card experimenter...
