New TSA rules?
Re: New TSA rules?
Just think.......people's mental image of their government is a "sociopathic TSA agent with his hand inside our pants".
"Land of the free....home of the brave"..........a place where there is "liberty and justice for all".......
We were lied to when we were little kids.

Re: New TSA rules?
Yes, my understanding is that they've stopped checking most CPAPs as long as they can easily see into them. That was my experience at both Phoenix and Las Vegas.lktnky wrote:Just got back from a trip and neither airport checked my machine.
The first said they've stopped checking newer machines as they're mostly plastic now and easily scanned.
The second airport (Las Vegas) didn't even bother picking it up, just left it in the tray and didn't say a word.
NICE!
I might try leaving the machine in the travel case when I travel next week. It's really cumbersome to take the laptop out, the cpap machine out, take off shoes, belts, wallet, etc.
Cheers,
Cory

Yes, what kind of freedom is this when we aren't free to blow up planes or drive without our seat belts on?! I want a refund.Gerald wrote:"Land of the free....home of the brave"..........a place where there is "liberty and justice for all".......

I don't mind a full body scan...haven't had one yet though. I have been patted down and air puffed ...looking forward to a full body scan. If it makes me safer I am all for it.

I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: New TSA rules?
Just got back from a week-long business trip/conference. CPAP was required to be out but was not swabbed (treated like the laptop) outbound, Nov. 10. Was told, "We don't have to swab them any more." I, however, was given the complete pat-down. On the return, the TSA folks denied that there were any new regs when I questioned the swabbing This was Nov. 17. Curious.
Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.
Re: New TSA rules?
I don't understand why do you need to be patted down if you can be naked scanned. Do you get both in USA or I misunderstood?
I'm going to the south on December and I will need to make a transfer in Newark, I imagine I will be received with arms open wide I know all this things need to be done if we don't want to explode in the air, not a funny idea!
A couple of months ago I was going from Montreal to South Carolina. An officer here at airport (the equivalent of TSA) asked me if I wanted to get a naked scann or to be patted down. I had never been patted down but I had seen at TV what it looked like the naked scan, so I very naively answered to the officer 'whatever', then I look at the scan and I say OK do the manual thing what a naive of me, the lady answered back 'Noooo you like better the naked scanner
Today that I saw what is the manual method I think that poor lady was feed up of groping women the day long I'm glad she told me 'you like the scanner' I get my scan and that's it. I don't think they sold the pictures to somebody, I'm sure they wouldn't be able to find a buyer

Yep. The managers went to special training on how to run large a organization. The training was put on by top executives from Enron, General Motors, Chrysler, Worldcom, and some others I don't recall. Bernie Madhoff made a guest appearance as did Billie Sol Estes and Charles Keating. Jim Baker was the ad hoc chaplain. Oh, that we would have paid attention to W when he said Government should be run like a business! So Well wrote:So these are the same type of government agencies that are going to straighten out your medical care?

Re: New TSA rules?
Don't worry. The pat-down is just for people who decline to be scanned. If there is no scanner, then there is no pat-down either. Even in airports with the scanners the old-fashioned metal detectors are still used much of the time.rosacer wrote:OH CRAP! I just read a news report of a flight attendant being asked to show her prosthetic breast to TSA agents. during a pat down screening. I'm thinking I don't want to fly.

Does the naked scanner mean I can go back to underwires?

Re: New TSA rules?
Glad to hear that the inane CPAP inspections have stopped. After all, CPAP machines do blow up== your airway, that is.
I deeply resent the pat-downs, and Reno (in my experience) has historically been one of the worst airports for unnecessary pat-downs.
I don't really mind a naked-scan, as long as the machine is an RF-based machine. The microwave energy used is harmless. But the X-ray-based machines expose you to IONIZING RADIATION. Any amount of ionizing radiation can damage your tissues and cause cancer. (The RF energy can barely make it into your skin, and is non-ionizing.) They are so careful when giving you a medical X-ray. But they are now blasting the travelling public with X-rays in the name of homeland security. THIS IS OBSCENE! It must be stopped.
Incidentally, they are now working on software for the whole-body scanners that will substitute an avatar for the actual body of the passenger. The only thing that will be shown is anythong that sin't 'natural body'.
