I have two friends who have openly stated, "I will die before I will sleep wearing one of those masks." Both of them are now slipping into the early stages of dementia and their wives are going through hell. These guys may live another ten to fifteen years in their own hell before they hear heaven's bells.

What an absolutely crude, tasteless comment. If you had read my post completeley you would have seen that I stated I had made the best decision for ME in MY life which you know nothing about. Judgemental people need to be careful as you never know what could come back to haunt you. I am not telling you what to do and if you are happy with your cpap life - that is great and just fine by me and I am happy you are having a good time but for me it did not work out that way - GET OVER IT!

I have no doubt at all that Blackspinner did read your entire post, especially thsi part of it:adksleepygal wrote:"No you will probably have a stroke or get dementia and the people who will have to wipe your ass will curse you for your stupidity."

In her straight talking wy she was trying to remind you of the following: It is not the lenght of your life that is the issue. It is the kind of life you may live. The large majority of people do not die a sudden, soft death. The large majority decline, and years of low oxygen to your brain and body raise the probablilty of that decline. You may find yourself in a living hell much worse than the one you think youi have left -- and unlike now, you will not have a chance to fix it.adksleepygal wrote: For me - a breathing machine was just not natural and I am a freedom loving person. So if they are right and I am going to die sooner or something like they tried to scare me with - what is so bad about that? I just get to go to heaven - now who can argue with that one? Nothing about living life here on earth is perfect for sure. That is why they call it life .
You also wrote this: ... "- my hubby hated it more than I did". Which makes me wonder what other things your hubby may hate, and expect you to give up... is this the guy who's supposed to be around "for better or for worse?".
Neither BlackSpinner nor Bill Bolton nor I are being "judgemental". You made your announcement, we are responding to it.
You said:
"I will live a shor life - so what - and maybe they're just trying to scare me".
You said you "prefered natural" but also informed us you can't handle your anxiety naturally.
You said your hubby hated the machine more than you did.
Obviously, your hubby wasn't as happy as you when you got up without a headache.
I admit, I would be very anxious if I lived with a man who responded like that to my disability or my medical needs - the vibes would have overwhelmed me.
I hope you will evnetually find a way of taking good care of yourself.

Adksleepygal,
There are many who frequent this site who believe that telling it like it is will be best for all. Obviously for you this is offensive! For some of us we find it hard to believe that a person would knowingly refuse a treatment that will add years to their life and opt for an early death over a little discomfort. There are many ways to adapt to therapy but none will work without the willingness to do it. What BlackSpinner and Roster were doing was to point out that it may not be death, but something that may disable you like a stroke that may be the consequence of non compliance. My sister at the age of 49 died of a massive stroke basically because she didn’t use her cpap regularly. There are many who did not die but instead became a vegetable and became a burden to their loved ones. If you wish to take a chance that is your prerogative, but do not expect to be cheered on for your decision as most of the people here choose to live. Good luck to you and I hope that you get what you want out of life and do not end up regretting giving up on a really simple fix to your sleep apnea.

Adksleepygal,
We are just concerned for you. My Dad passed away suddenly at age 71 of a massive heart attack. He had no history of heart disease but just could not or would not wear his cpap mask, even though he was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. So, when I was diagnosed, and I was just as claustrophobic as my Dad, I took the diagnosis seriously and kept trying masks until I found one I could live with. I want to live a long life as healthy and be as "with it" as possible.
On this site we help each other find ways to cope with the mask and hose so that hopefully we can live healthier, longer.
Warmly,
Jersey Girl

Truth is often distasteful and crude. Death is the easy part - slow dying is gross smelly and disgusting for many people. I have watched my mother after her strokes, I am sure your husband will love you as he changes your diaper too, since he encouraged you to do this to yourself. How nice of him to encourage you to shorten your life and make it more unbearable. I am all for people committing suicide if they find life to painful, it is your life but there are others involved too.adksleepygal wrote:"No you will probably have a stroke or get dementia and the people who will have to wipe your ass will curse you for your stupidity."

I hope if you are driving with your sleep deprived mind you won't also wipe out another loving family who really did want to live, but do take your ever lovin' husband along for the ride, I wouldn't want to wish the selfish SOB on any other woman.
Sleep deprivation and lack of O2 has obviously affected your analytical thinking.
Or maybe your are vying for the Darwinian Award?

PM'd to me
Like I said the O2 and sleep deprivation have already damaged your thinking abilities.
Oh and I am not angry at you, why should I be? I just pointed out how stupid you were, I have no vested interest in your slow lingering death as long as you don't take anyone innocent with you.
Have courage of your convictions and don't hide behind pms. The only way I am going to respond to them is on this open thread. You obviously have some very complex mental health issues - anger is very apparent - please do not comment to me again - people like you are not helpful to anyone.

Well I am so sorry - I was just trying to keep things civil here on this forum openly - if you are delighting yourself in being cruel - well knock yourself out. Courage is not my problem and right now i am not sleep deprived as I had the best night of sleep last night which I have had in many days = FREEDOM and I am loving it!

Yep me too, especially after watching my mother dying slowly in bits and pieces, I am making this easiest of therapies I have ever experienced work as well as I can so my daughters are not left to try and keep the pieces together. I love my family too much to do that to them on purpose.Sleepy Taz wrote:roster wrote:Sleepy Taz wrote: but do not expect to be cheered on for your decision as most of the people here choose to live.

Self pity. I know I should feel more compassion; having been there--
but getting above it all means putting self-pity aside,
and concentrating on constructive solutions--not whining and bellyaching.
Yes, it's true, dear. So DO IT!
Sympathy is not the same thing as pity--stop looking for pity, and get help.

And suddenly my thread takes on a life of it's own lol.
Sleep Log 16th day - 8.5 hours sleep – woke up like yesterday – No brain fog – no tiredness or exhaustion – no headaches - got up once to go to toilet during night - woke up a couple of times to change position - no choking - no suffocating or anxious feelings upon awakening - no gasping for air through the night.
I got a spring in my step and I am smiling while making bacon and eggs for everyone in the morning - sure beats walking around like a lobotomized zombie after dragging my sorry ass and fogged up brain out of bed.
Have a great day I know I will - Chopper.
P.s. adksleepygal - may I suggest you look into the Butekyo treatment method for sleep apnoea it has a 100% money back guarantee and promises to help you come off and stay off your cpap machine for good while ridding yourself of Apneas/Hypopneas for ever – you can do another sleep study after the Butekyo course to confirm your AHI/RAI Scale
{I just completed the 5 day course and I am not currently using a cpap machine}
See my previous posts for links on this thread or first post on this thread or check out the intro video below you can skip to the 1:35.00 on the time marker of the video to hear about sleep apnoea and coming off cpap the safe way.
