All the best Brendan. Let us know how you got on. Be patient, there is a hell of a lot that you need to learn, but you will pick it up rapidly. My advice in order of importance would be:
1. Aim for maximum compliance, as quickly as possible. Try to not spend 1 minute asleep without the mask on.
2. Listen to your body very carefully. If its telling you it wants extra sleep, give it to it, no matter what time of the day it is. Excuse yourself from
committments if you have to. If your body says sleep, then SLEEP !
3. You have a data capable machine, so get the software and use it, as soon as possible.
We are quite similar in a number of areas. My AHI was 33, yours was 34. (I am know running at 2.0, and dropping). We both use the same machine. Our ages are similar. To give you hope, I started CPAP on June 30 this year, so I have been on it for 94 days now. Healthwise I would of rated myself a 4 out of 10 pre CPAP. Now I would rate myself 7.5 out of 10, and rising.

Re: Newbie - First night on CPAP tonight!
Thanks everyone for the best wishes and advice. The first night went pretty well. My wife assures me the snoring disappeared. I slept for about 5hrs without any noticeable interruption, followed by another couple of hours with lots of dreams. I definitely feel better this morning than yesterday although I have to admit I'm not exactly jumping around with energy. That would probably have been a little too much to hope for anyway! I guess the real test will be whether or not I feel exhausted come this afternoon.
I had read some comments from others regarding the S9 saying that it gives you a quick summary of your previous night's sleep when you wake up in the morning. All I can see on mine is the total number of hours usage for the night. How do I see more info without importing from the card? Also, how do I get into the setup menus? It seems like my unit is restricted to some very simple user adjustments.
Brendan.

You may still have problems with daytime exhaustion during your adjustment. If it happens, don't let it discourage you. I and others (who had little or no daytime sleepiness pre-CPAP) have posted threads about being much more tired and much more sleepy on CPAP. For me, it's still early in my therapy and I know the CPAP is eliminating most of the events. But it is still tough when you're more tired than before. There's lots of good support here when you need a sympathetic ear and suggestions on what to try to fix the problems that tend to crop up.I guess the real test will be whether or not I feel exhausted come this afternoon.
Sounds like your RT set the machine's Sleep Quality setting to Usage instead of On. I suggest doing the following: First PM a user named Uncle_Bob or search for posts by him. He has links to the Clinical Guide for the S9 as well as a link to the ResScan software. You need to get into the Clinical menu to change the Sleep Quality setting. Second I'd also call the DME and tell them you would like them to turn Sleep Quality on. They really ought to be setting all the S9's they provide up with Sleep Quality set to On in my opinion.I had read some comments from others regarding the S9 saying that it gives you a quick summary of your previous night's sleep when you wake up in the morning. Re: Newbie - First night on CPAP tonight!
Hi Brendon and Lioness,
Welcome.
Lioness, how did you go with your first night on the hose?
Brendon, you are doing very well to get 5 hours straight on your first night. Please don't be discouraged. You will find the machine gives you your life back, but it won't happen suddenly.
You will have some days when you feel over the moon you feel so much better, but you will also be challenged by many aspects of this therapy.
This forum is the best source of information I've found and also an unfailing source of support. Because we've all been new at this, there is always someone who can share in the joys and triumphs or help if things aren't going so well. No one understands as well as a fellow hosehead!
Please keep us posted how you're getting on.
regards
Di
