Good white noise machine?

http://www.marpacsleepmate.net was looking at these to block out any noise and ease me to sleep. Anyone have experience with these?

Yes, I have used one for about 6 months now. I like it and also bring on trips as well. Does what I want it to and hasn't given any trouble yet. Thumbs up.

Humm Interesting I use a fan for white noise, but I think I will look into this.

I have a white noise machine that I bought back in 93 and it still emits old school white noise. White noise was so much better back then, not all digital like it is today. Did I mention that I had to walk uphill bothways in the snow back when I bought it. I also use an old school fan that I bought from an auction at an old nunnery. It emits holly white noise. I bought it at the same time I bought the other machine. My feet are still cold.

That is the best one on the market.

I have owned three of the fancy electronic types and they just don't make a "pure" noise like this mechanical model does.

The Marpac is somewhat heavy and feels like it will work well for many years.

I have one that I bought from Sharper Image years ago and it has diffrnet sounds like a river and ocean waves and the rainforest and a heartbeat and a brook and such. It is a nice one, but I can't hear but if I lay on my right side then I can hear it. I found that if I plug my zune ear phone in my right ear then I can fall asleep listening to oldies and goodies type of music and it works well for me. My zune aslo has audio books and movies and things like Vynil Cafe and that is so funny. If any of you are not familliar wiht a zune, it is a type of MP3 player. My younest sister got each one of use one. I love it. The white noise thing I hardley ever use any more, but I've had it for years and it still works. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

I have tinnitis in my right ear; so when I remove my hearing aid to sleep--voila!

Just a suggestion, but it works for me...I have an air purifier that blows out "clean" air right beside my bed. It has always helped with husband's snores (and NO, he doesn't have apnea...can you believe it?...lol), TV if he's in the other room, outside sounds, etc. Helps me.

Both my kids have one in their rooms and they've been going strong for 5 yrs. You can make it as loud or soft as you want. I think its worth the $.

ResMed S8 Autoset II. It's the one that has helped me sleep the most.

I've tried many WhiteNoise machines over the years including a Marpac unit similar to the one linked.
(It's good) I have owned Sharper Image gadgets, an expensive in ear (like a hearing aid) device that
generates white noise, and have even used special audio editing software to create my own sounds
that I looped through a bed side sound system.

However,

I can never seem to beat the mechanical sound and volume of a 3 speed box fan such you might get at Walmart.
When traveling it's a must placed between me and the most likely sound sources for the best sleep.
(I even tried recording my box fan but it's not the same as the real thing)

I have two of these, and I've had others in the past. They are very good. Buy the model that has a low and high setting if you think you might want it louder or less loud (although there are other ways of adjusting).

What is wrong with black noise? Black works better in the bed.
