Pat downs could easily happen to any of you if you travel with cpac machines. Most of you have been very unhelpful and that leaves me hoping you get your share of them.

Well I think when we face possibility or experience of something embarrassing, uncomfortable, or upsetting such as this procedure is for some.....we all have different ways of dealing with it. And since it's a process we can't change, then the best to do is as has been suggested here: avoid glycerin products, wipe down your machine before flying, or take another mode of transportation if you can't stand the possibility of the pat down. Others have shared their sense of humor about it, and there's no need for venom in return, I think.

Sharon1225 wrote:On the way to Tennessee for the 4th of July, I was subjected to a pat down because my CPAP machine tested positive. That consisted of the female agent touching me all over my body with gloves. Then she took the gloves to be tested. Since her gloves didn't test positive, they let me fly, but because my husband and I complained about all the touching of my breasts, we had to visit with other officials of airport security. One of the officers informed us that we don't have to fly.

I do not know why my machine tested positive. The agent testing it said I must have just used some hand lotion. Someone else asked if I took blood pressure medicine. I plead guilty to both. I use hand lotion and take blood pressure medicine. I read here that glycerine is often used in cosmetics and it is also used in nitro glycerine, which is an explosive. A blogger on this site said that airport security has been having a problem with false alarms for that reason. I do remember that this time I did put on my make up before I packed my CPAP machine. I usually do that first thing after I wake up. I could also have used hand lotion just before I took the machine out to put it in a bin for airport security.

Now, I am not sure what to do about the trip back home. I was planning to just check it and take the risk that it could be damaged or lost. I thought I'd wrap it in bubble wrap and put it inside a suit case. I don't know what I'd do if the luggage got lost or if it was stolen. I would not be able to sleep without it.....at least not for very long.

I feel violated when I have to stand with my arms out while a woman touches my breasts. it's embarrassing to do that in public with everyone watching, but going to a private room with a stranger who is going to touch my breasts seems creepy. As much as I hate having it done in public, going to a secluded room seems worse.
Maybe we missed where you asked for help? Really

You wanted people here to agree with you but this kind of security is simply because of the world we live in today.

I am a 71 year old woman and I accept that things are this way now and I feel safer because they are this way. No one knows what a "terrorist" looks like!

My artificial joints had to be confirmed and then I was on my way. I accept that. One of my artificial joints is a hip. I don't see, as a woman, any difference in my hip and thigh being "patted down" than your breasts. If you wish to see an airport security pat down as "inappropriate" I don't understand that. I see it as a way to try to keep people safe.

Am I the only one here who has never been on an airplane? Well, I have been sitting on one, but it was being repaired at the time and therefore doesn't count.

Getting patted down is not keeping us safer. If you think that, you're fooling yourselves. Those making us unsafe are Muslim terrorists. We're giving up our dignity and our liberty for a false sense of security. Ben Franklin was right. Those who give up their liberty for more security.....

Happy Independence Day.
But to answer that.... Who is a Muslim?

You claim that you are a Catholic.

To TSA though you could be Jewish, Buddhist, Taoist, Mormon, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopalian, Roman Catholic, Jehovah's Witness, Greek Orthodox, Presbyterian, or one of the 1000's of religions in the world. They don't know (unless they go to church with you) and even then, who is to say that you haven't been recruited by a terrorist organization.

I don't fly. However I can see the need for increased security. In this day and age, you can't tell who is who. If they really wanted to blow up airplanes, they wouldn't use the traditional channels anymore. The terrorist would start to recruit anyone. Would that include you? Possibly.

Anyways, Good Muslims don't blow up planes, the extremists do. Classifying a religion as a terror group is not good. Maybe you should classify Catholics as murderers because some of the extremists kill abortion doctors. You might say that isn't the same, but it is.

Your pat down is because your machine tested positive, standard procedure. You presented it to TSA, not your husband. As others have said, just make sure you wipe it down before handling it. Or better yet, skip the lotion the day you are going to fly.

Then again, you are the type of person that is highly recruited to be a mule for the Medellin cartels, often unwittingly.
