Hi Julie, that's a good suggestion. Now that I know that glycerin is used in cosmetics and has been causing some false alarms in CPAC testing, I will certainly avoid using lotions and/or cosmetics and then handling my CPAC machine. I don't feel overly confident that will take care of it. I was planning to just check it as luggage.

Good, because I have to say you're false sense of propriety is really out of place when it comes to keeping everyone safe. The security people cannot (no one can) make snap decisions about who to examine and who not to, if that were the case there wouldn't be any bombs going off anywhere. Have you never seen a female doctor and been examined? It's just 'business' to everyone, nothing else.

It is absolutely necessary to have breasts touched if a woman tests positive for explosives. That is the world we live in. The TSA MUST make the flight as safe as possible.

You are so right. There has been such a rash of elderly female Catholic terrorists trying to blow up planes, lately. The truth is that giving up our liberty to not have our private parts touched by strangers is not making us safer. TSA is looking at things when they should be looking at people.
I feel for your breasts. Really.
Why does it appear that you've joined this forum just to whine? Really?
5 posts today about your breasts. Really?
Youve given us no clues on how to travel with a cpap. Really.

Security is a part of flying. Whining about it won't change that. Nothing in your numerous posts implies the agent did anything wrong or disrespectful. Just doing her job. You Catholicism has nothing to do with it. You pulled a positive, you got patted down. That's not TSA's fault.
If you don't like to possibility of a pat-down, take the bus. Problem solved.

I hope you have many pat downs in your life time.
Bye
Getting patted down is not keeping us safer. If you think that, you're fooling yourselves. Those making us unsafe are Muslim terrorists. We're giving up our dignity and our liberty for a false sense of security. Ben Franklin was right. Those who give up their liberty for more security.....
Happy Independence Day.

Oooh ooh where can I go to have my breasts patted down by a cute female agents? I always thought a woman in uniform is sooo sexy!
The bust size I have I could be carrying enough to take out the whole airport but they have never checked them.

If you test positive for explosives, and you are an elderly Catholic female, what do you want the TSA to do? I want the TSA to do everything possible to ensure I do not get blown out of the sky.
It would be great to go back in time, live by the relaxed rules we used to enjoy, but those days are gone forever.

The thing is that patting down everyone who has a CPAP test positive does not ensure you won't blow up in the sky. There seems to be a problem with their testing method because they're having frequent false alarms. On top of that, they didn't pat my husband down. They obviously are not patting down everyone traveling with the CPAP. They are just patting down the individual who uses it. If it were being used for an explosive, it would be just as likely that someone else traveling with the owner would be the one doing it.
The terrorism is coming from radical Islamics. I don't think there's been a single terrorist attempt by anyone who is not a Muslim. They are looking at things when they should be looking at people. That is not making us safer. We're giving up liberties and not getting more security.
I found this site while googling trying to find out what caused the false alarm and how I can prevent future ones. I joined to find out more. You have not been the slightest bit helpful. I don't know why you bother to respond.

They did not pat you down (nor your husband) because you had a Cpap machine. They did it because you set off an alert. It's not rocket science and your attitude regarding Muslims (as has finally come out in your last post) is not going to win you any friends - Muslim or otherwise. Have there been no American terrorists? How would you describe the man who blew up the federal bldg. (with a day care centre inside) a few years ago? And, no, I am not a Muslim, in fact anything but (and you can make of that whatever you want).
However, I think from now on, apart from not wearing lotion at airports, you need to wear a sign telling people that you're Catholic and therefore exempt from suspicion of any possible wrongdoing in the world. And that of course you are also exempt from being patted. Woof!

A choice always has to be made between a high FALSE positive rate (i.e., it's not dangerous, but it's checked out) or a high FALSE negative rate (i.e., it is dangerous, and it's not checked out). The cost of false positives are upsetting individuals like you. The cost of false negatives are deaths.

Really??
I hope they are patting down people who test positive for explosives.
Maybe it is people with an attitude? Really.
Did your google find this?
Female homicide bombers are being fitted with exploding breast implants which are almost impossible to detect, British spies have reportedly discovered.
The shocking new Al Qaeda tactic involves radical doctors inserting the explosives in women's breasts during plastic surgery — making them "virtually impossible to detect by the usual airport scanning machines."
Did it? Did it? Really?
Maybe you should move to Isreal? Where they worry about your civil rights. Really
Thanks for stopping by Sharon. Really.

Yes all the security at the airport is a pain in the butt. It is however there and if you choose to fly you are stuck with it. Would a body scanner suit you better? (somehow I think not)
My husband flies at least once a week. He never checks luggage as it's usually only overnight trips. He is allowed his laptop bag and a carry on The laptop bag is also his briefcase. To fly he needs to clear everything out of his laptop bag into his carry on except the computer. Papers, pens, etc all have to go in the carry on. Is it a pain?...sure it is, but it's the nature of flying today, and all his paperwork is highly confidential so it can't leave his sight. Does it make any sense? Not really, unless you count death by a thousand papercuts as a terrorist attack.
That's life today. No one is above suspicion anymore. I have lost two close friends as a result of an airline bombing. Little old ladies, catholic or otherwise should not be exempt, nor should children, white, black, brown, green, or orange people boarding a plane.
You came looking for advice to avoid this. Wipe down your machine prior to packing, don't wear hand lotions. It's no guarantee but that is the answer you were searching for. I'm sorry you felt violated but that is not really anyone's problem but your own, just as the fact that hubby has to transfer all his paperwork and such back to his briefcase once he boards a plane. I'm pretty sure my Catholic grandma would have been thrilled to be felt up at an airport and even would have made jokes about it. (God rest her crazy awesome soul)
