How to clean a Resmed autoset II water chamber?

Post by SnoreNoMore2005 » Wed Jun 09, 2010 1:36 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have a Resmed autoset II with humidifier, and ever though I use distilled water only, it has accumulated a dark residue on the bottom of the floor of the chamber. The hole is too small to stick anything through, but if I take a q-tip, I can write my name in the bottom of the chamber in the residue.

Can anyone tell me how to clean the chamber?

Thanks

Hmmmm. I've never had one get yuck like that!!! However, drop a PoliDent Denture cleansing tablet into the tank, fill it w/warm water and let that tablet clean away. Give it 10-15 minutes to work, shake well and empty, rinse well w/a vinegar and water rinse.

Try some coke (just kidding) although that will clean anything but probably won't do it any good.

If it's the kind of scale that you see building up inside a kettle then you could try a kettle descaler. I've never seen a dark residue though before.

Thanks
Dave

Quoting from the ResMed User H4i guide, to use: a solution of one part vinegar to 10 parts water.
1) Fill yellow cleaning plug (comes with the humidifier, looks like a flat plastic dish) that you fill with to the rim with vinegar and pour into empty water chamber.
2) Add clean water to the water chamber until the solution reaches the maximum water level mark.
3) Let the solution soak for 10 minutes.
4) Discard the solution and rinse the water chamber with clean water.

Hope it cleans the dark residue in your humidifier chamber.

I cleaned mine by poking a CPAP cleaning wipe into it; shaking it all around and then pulling the wipe out with a tweezer. If the stuff on the bottom is pink then it could be a bacteria and you should clean it more often.

Hot water, a PoliDent Denture Cleansing tablet, soaking, a good shake, rinse w/vinegar & water mixture, rinse, empty, shake to get all possible water out, allow to dry.

During the day, pop the top of the humidifier to allow further drying thru out the day. If my PAP and humidifier are not being used the humidifier top is popped and allowed to set open until I'm ready to use them again.

I found that poking a paper towel down into it and then filling it with water and swishing it around helps alot.

I just did the paper towel method with half full of hot soapy water and lots of swishing. I pulled out the towel and rinsed. Then I noticed the way the metal bottom was notched into tabs. I looked closer and noticed the plastic swivel holder on the other side. I pushed these plastic tabs and the whole metal bottom comes out for easy cleaning access to everything. This is a Res Med Autoset II water chamber. Has anyone else noticed this?

I believe there are two different humidifier designs for the ResMed S8 machines, one much more easy to clean. There is an upgrade path to the easy clean version.

There's the "H3i" humidifier which doesn't have a "dishwasher safe" chamber option, but the H4i model has an optional "dishwasher safe" tank. The option H4i dishwasher safe tank is the one that's easier to clean.

You can convert an H3i humidifier to use the H4i chambers with this adapter.

I think you still need to order the optional H4i dishwasher safe tank to get the easy clean tank.

At least, that's the way I think it works. I never had an S8 myself.
