I hate stupid polls - lets have a poll about dividing the board into sections instead and chose to answer this instead answering what Jules is asking about.

POLL: Swift FX pillow size

Post by jules » Wed Mar 24, 2010 12:19 pm

I am using the Swift FX and am wondering if I need a different size pillow. I have used M with original Swift, M with Liberty, and M with Swift LT but as much as I can get a good seal with M on Swift FX, it is a little harder to obtain than with these other masks. When I got the FX I just automatically used the M and hope this information in this poll can help others in the future.

Hi Jules!

I use a little Lanisoh Lanolin ointment - just a dab on the outsides of my nairs and then I put on my Swift FX. The Lanisoh Lanolin is just a little bit tacky and so it makes the pillows adhere right away. This product is used by nursing mothers and so it can be found in the drug store - it is expensive - about $10 a tube, but it should last you awhile, as you only need a tiny bit.

Hope this helps!

Warmly,

Jersey Girl

Jules, how do you like the mask otherwise? I am thinking of making this my next mask as so many have stated how comfortable it is.

I used small pillows with the Swift LT but am using medium with the Swift FX. I find the FX leakier than the LT but it is much more comfortable. It's funny as when I got the LT I thought it was the perfect mask - I still love it but haven't used it since I got the FX. The FX does take some getting used to IMO.

I used the small in the Swift LT and started out with the small in the SwiftFX.

I seemed to have to adjsut it more often that the Swift LT so, about a week ago, I switched to medium pillows for the FX.

So far it seems better.

I don't have the Fx yet, but when I was deciding between that and the hybrid, I noticed that the sizes don't seem to correspond to the LT.
I'm wondering if you find that the Fx stays more secure on your head than the LT??

No chance - that is why I find it leaks more than the LT - I had ZERO leaks for 12 months with the LT but 3.6 l/m for the FX - still no worse leak than the Activa I originally started with but nowhere nears as good as the LT for leaks. The FX is an almost not there mask.

I've been using the FX for a few weeks and use the medium pillows same as I did with the LT. I get a better seal with the FX , with less leaks and that took some patient adjusting over some time to find the right fit. I ended up tightening the top silicon strap more than I originally thought. I've also noticed that too much tension on the short hose can really create very small pain in the butt leaks so I am careful about running it down not up. For me, that seems to work better.

I find the leak rate just a bit higher for what it should be at the pressure I am at as compared to the chart included with the written material. But...that line is consistent and generally flat. It's probably just manufacturing variance.

While I was cleaning the mask, I managed to unsnap (accidently) one of the gray connectors that are on either end. In light of that, I used some teflon tape to snug that up for each and resnaped them back in.

I am very disappointed to hear that, since I was planning for the Fx to be my next mask. In that case, perhaps we should vote on sections or flame jules....or both?

I am using an extra strap with the FX as I did with the LT and the original swift and without it my leak rate went sky high --- but I find the FX more comfortable than the LT by far. However, my data is in the toilet so far.

flame away Rebecca, but you still have to take the final exam as scheduled.

Where do you put the extra strap??? I bought some neoprene today and am planning to customize my LT headgear because it slides around too much. I was going to trace the hybrid headgear because it stays in place well--but haven't decided how to mickey mouse it to the LT headgear, without trashing it.
However, my data is in the toilet so far.
From the mask pillow!? How far in the toilet?

I would like to point out that you haven't given out the how to flame handouts & lecture and furthermore haven't revealed what will be on the final exam or when it will be. Please please please no math...

I am an aloe person not a lanolin person.

The extra strap for LT --- let me find the description - it is a little tight I find on the nares - I am using the same piece of elastic with the FX with a loop in the headgear by where the cloth cheek covers are and back to the base of my head (there is an opening to put the elastic through).

okay -here are my other Swift fixes - there is one continuous loop of elastic - half looped into the back headgear strap and the other half around the base of my head (even though that is white and back with Teddy in the second one, those pieces were tied into one loop)

Please check with carbonman for the "how to flame" handout. I think he took excellent notes when it was discussed in class and then later so graciously demonstrated by bbc3 on this thread.

Oh, but this is a final exam on all aspects of cpaptalk which includes basic data analysis and Navier-Stokes equation (see DreamStalker for notes on them especially in polar coordinates).

I am not an aloe person or a lanolin person. I am allergic to wool. I was getting desperate, so I broke down and bought the lansinoh and found out that because it is medical grade I am not allergic to it. It works.
Thanks for the fix link. I will be using your teddy photos.
