S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
Alright this was getting annoying, the new super fresh from the download link install was still still giving me grief.
So I uninstalled ResScan, I edited the register and deleted the three Resmed entries and re-installed ResScan. I also formatted the SD card and copied over the base files i'd originally copied off the brand new card. When i inserted the card into the S9 i noticed some kind of "new card" type message, i can't remember exactly what it said. But now i notice that if the card is kept in the machine overnight i can get all my data items on ResScan again. It seems that the S9 keeps the summary data internally but if you want detailed data it needs to write to the SD card?
Now back to sorting out my centrals ...

Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
Hi Bob,
Summary data and Detailed data are stored in the DATALOG folder. If you are getting the format card message then the root folder is corrupted on your SD card check out viewtopic/t50414/S9--How-to-fix-a-corru ... -card.html I hit this last night.
I thought maybe I had copied the card to PC to make a backup then copied something back but it's highly possible that maybe I corrupted the card like ejecting it when ResScan was still open and closing files.
If you format your SD card in your S9, then if you have a DATALOG folder backup you can copy this back and the card will be restored. Just don't touch or mess with the files on the root directory. if it corrupts again follow the instructions in this thread.
viewtopic/t50414/S9--How-to-fix-a-corru ... -card.html
I believe you're right though it does also keep Summary data internally in the machine as well as on the SD card, so you can use the machine without the SD card. I think when you insert the card it does a number of things
1. Checks the files and checksums are correct on the root of the SD card
2. Writes out the Summary data from the machine if it's missing on the SD card for the previous night
Thanks
Dave

Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
Seems as though the S9 has more memory on board than what I thought...
Bill Bolton reported on another thread that memory on board the machine is sufficient to store at least a number of Detailed Days. This morning when I lost some data on my SD card (not sure why yet) I looked inside the Datalog folder and found very few files for that day and No Detailed or Hi Res Info in ResScan for that day. I had 8 days of HiRes Data stored on the card so I deleted all the Data except the last 2 days and I put the card back into the S9 for 1 minute and then tried it again on the computer.... no change. Turned on the S9 to Therapy with SD card inside, again for 1 minute - still no info for ResScan.
Laid down for and hour with SD card inside the S9 and then inserted into ResScan - I got all the Detailed info and HiRes info for the complete night earlier . The Memory on the S9 copied over the SD card and re-installed all my data for the latest day. It did not copy more that the last 2 days of HiRes data. In other words there is more memory on the machine than what I thought but not enough for 7 days of HiRes... I think.
That would suggest there is enough memory for some days of Summary; Some Detailed Session and Some HiRes Sessions. We might be able to run w/o card and Install it later to collect complete data... although I haven't tried that.
fact that the Machine overwrites the card each time would explain why it doesn't matter how large the card is... its the Limits of the S9 memory.
Still learning... Does anyone have some better info

Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
I would think similar to what you found that it includes the previous night's detailed data and not much more than that. It might include the previous day depending on the time you try to attempt this.
Looking at the Clinicians manual it suggests no Detailed data is stored, so I would take this as current day / previous night only.

Now I could see that there might be a fail safe built in, e.g. if you don't have your SD card then maybe it will try to keep a few days more of detailed data until you insert your SD card again to ensure you don't lose data. I doubt though that this will be kept for long. I don't know what the memory pool available is for this kind of data but I would think probably no more than 8mb.

Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
That's what I thought until BillBolton (Aussie) posted and corrected me.
It is also different than the chart in the ResScan Clinician Guide which says only Summary and that's what I was going by. Then I tried it and collected the info... although it was Detailed Data for the same day. I haven't tried it for any longer period of time. It was out of necessity...
He doesn't own an S9 but obviously has some inside info to ResMed. I'm going to PM him and see if there is further...

Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
No inside information but as a long time user of both AutoScan and then ResScan, I do understand the basic "architecture" of Resmed's data handling approach.Nord wrote:He doesn't own an S9 but obviously has some inside info to ResMed.
The data management in the flow generators is to hold summmary data for every day of use for a long time (up to a year).
Detailed data for each day is held for several days (varies from 2 to 30 days depending on the model), and whatever detailed data is available will be all copied onto a data transfer carrier (ResScan card or SD card depending on the model) if it is inserted into the flow generator.
As I don't have an S9 I don't know how the high rate data is handled, but a straightforward reading of the "7 days" indicated for being on the SD card strongly suggests to me that the the S9 is holding the most recent 7 days of high rate data in its internal memory and writing it all out to the SD card each time it is inserted.
In each case the number of days reflects the days the machine was switched on, not necessarily elapsed calendar days. So, for instance, if you have a travel (or back-up) flow genearator that is not used every day, it could have a mix of what looks like recent and older data in its "n" days internal of storage.
The Resmed flow generators can only display what is basically summary information, so a cliniciamn or user cannot "see" the detailed and high rate information that is held in the flow generator without using a ResScan or SD card (as appropriate).
Everyone needs to be careful about applying an overly technical reading to the Resmed marketing/user narrative information, which is primarily aimed at non-technical clinicians and users.
Cheers,
Bill
Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
I'm new to this game, so help is very much appreciated. I have an S9 Autoset and am logging results manually after accessing the basic results screen each day (# of hours, smily mask fit, and AHI incidents).
Some straighforward quetions:
1. I saw a more detailed user screen on another post. How do you get into that?
2. Is there a "user" access and a "clinician" setting? If yes - how do you get into the clinician menu?
4. I understand there is "detailed" and "summary" data generated by the S9. True?
5. How much detailed data does the S9 store without the SD card? The set up pro told me 30 days, but I think she was winging it
6. What happens when the built in memory runs out? Does it overwrite the old days?
7. About the SD card:
a. Does it load the S9 data as soon as you put it in?
b. If you put it in right away, how many detailed days does it capture
c. How do you read the "detailed" information from the card? How about the summary info? What is the software? Where do you buy it? How much?
8. If you take a nap with the machine, is that time added to the sleep time for that day?
Thanks for any responses!!!

Re: S9, can't get AHI breakdown & data missing
Hi Bill, I carried out a test this morning after last nights sleep. I ejected my usual SD card, inserted a blank SD card, the S9 asked to format it. Left it in the machine for 8 hours and although it wrote a DATALOG folder it didn't write any files to it. It may not have written anything to the new SD card possibly because it already knew it has written to another SD card but I thought I'd give it a try.billbolton wrote:The data management in the flow generators is to hold summmary data for every day of use for a long time (up to a year).

I'll PM you some info.gpk111 wrote:1. I saw a more detailed user screen on another post. How do you get into that?

This is true, the S9 provides both summary and detailed written to the SD card. Detailed data are kept for 7 days which includes detailed information about the flow.gpk111 wrote:4. I understand there is "detailed" and "summary" data generated by the S9. True?
ResMed suggest a year worth of data but detailed data is only kept for days. So if you have some problem you want investigated a month ago there will be summary information about the AHI, AI and HI but you won't have some of the detailed graphs to go with it.gpk111 wrote:5. It will overwrite it.gpk111 wrote:6. What happens when the built in memory runs out? Does it overwrite the old days?
You need to leave the SD card in all the time to write to the SD cardgpk111 wrote:7. About the SD card:

No detailed data from my tests so fargpk111 wrote:b. If you put it in right away, how many detailed days does it capture
With the ResScan software from ResMed. It's free.gpk111 wrote:c. How do you read the "detailed" information from the card? How about the summary info? What is the software? Where do you buy it? How much?
All information when you are on the machine will be recorded.gpk111 wrote:8. If you take a nap with the machine, is that time added to the sleep time for that day?
