Its been a full five months since my nightmare lipid panel. I've been improving my diet and taking supplements of CoQ10 and Red Yeast Rice daily. Exercise has remained about the same, 75-100 miles cycling a week along with doing my own yard work etc.

Initial panel in Red, Last weeks panel in Blue, difference in green

Total 355 mg/dL
Trig 310
HDL 49
VLDL 62
LDL 244

Total 274 mg/dL
Trig 98
HDL 80
VLDL 20
LDL 174

Total -81
Trig -212
HDL +31
VLDL -42
LDL -70

This seems like a pretty good outcome over 5 months ? Its just my total and LDL that are out of range now. I've also lost just over 30lbs in weight too
My doc still wants to see me. I wonder if he will just say keep it up or if he will put me on some kind of medications?

Thanks to everyone, especially Joy for advice on the supplements

Wow Bob, what a turn around!

that is wonderful!

I can just tell you my husbands experience with supplements..

he had a heart attack last year.. by happenstance, I was able to nab him the best cardiologist around..

He was sent to a cardiac care clinic which specializes in the prevention of cardiac related illnesses..

They prescribe medication when THEY HAVE TO.. otherwise your prescription might be all supplements, diet and excercise, or a combination of
meds and the former.. This is one of the first clinics in the U.S. to provide prevention as the main goal..
prevention of a first attack, or a second if you have already had one..

Here is what they have prescribed my husband, who unfortunatly has a genetic predipostion to high cholosteral on the male side of the family..
These are prescribed by his cardiologist, and they are considered to be imparative for his treatment. He is checked every three months,
and blood tests are reviewed each and every time.

coQmax CF
Orthomega Fish oil
Vitamin D
Time release Niacin
Glucomannan
Red Yeast Rice
Glusomine Sulfate
I hope all physcians are beginning to realize the importance of not just throwing medications at their patients.
Of course some supplements have side effects too, so its important to have the proper research and guidance.
