Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
I could have sworn "“7 Habits of Highly Successful Sleep Apnea Patients.” sounded familiar. And it was...
http://www.articlesbase.com/sleep-artic ... 28963.html
Similar to "7 Habits of Highly Successful CPAP Patients."
http://www.articlesbase.com/sleep-artic ... 28960.html
Of course, a live teleseminar with free phone call and chance to ask a question is a plus.

Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with Dr Park, but (barring any notes to the contrary here) I'll assume that he is a legitimate and credible source.
re the 7 Habits of Highly Successful Sleep Apnea Patients, might one habit be to collect daily therapy data (and review it frequently) in order to optimize the xPAP use to maximum success? (And further, to eliminate leaks if shown by data to be present and to make, or have a DME make, prudent modifications to pressures or pressure ranges in order to optimize the treatment to maximum therapeutic value based on the data?)
Perhaps I'm torturing the word "habit" here, and if so...mea culpa.

Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
In the second link I posted.. to the similarly named "7 Habits of Successful CPAP Patients" (instead of "Sleep Apnea Patients")... Dr. Park's point #5 seems to agree with your good observation, Captain_Midnight:
5. They constantly monitor the data from their machines to work with the sleep doctor and equipment company, making constant adjustments and fine tuning various settings.

Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
The only thing that worries me here is that Dr. Park seems to be cropping up more and more on the forum in one way or another and I would hate to see people beginning to assume that, while he may be very knowledgable, he is some kind of guru, and ignore or reject much of what else is out there in OSA research land. The science is too new to be coming to final conclusions yet and I think we should just keep that in mind.
Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
Dr. Park,
Thank you so much for the notice. I regularly read your articles on the web site and Santa brought me a copy of your book, Sleep, Interrupted.
Thanks for all the effort and passion you are putting into SDB. I am using your web site to increase the level of awareness in my friends, family and associates. Many of them are in desperate need of diagnosis and treatment. I am emailing a few of them the link to your December 23 article, Sleep Apnea Denial, http://doctorstevenpark.com/sleep-apnea-denial .

Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
Julie, I would have to say that his success rate with his pt's has to speak for itself. As does the success rate of my ENT. This is one place where numbers really matter. I have seen and heard of way too many people having surgery and saying how bad it was or that it made them worst. I have not heard anyone say this about Dr. Park.
He is very knowledgeable and shares his many thoughts with us. Some people think he out there on some things he says but that will happen when you share your thoughts and are looking for input back. If we didn't have people who put themselves out there and let their thoughts or ideas be known we wouldn't be as far as we are with CPAP.
Rooster, that is one good book. I read it once, went back over some things I highlighted and am planning on reading it again. I was hoping to read it sooner but this successful treatement of my OSA happened and I haven't forgotten all of it yet.

Given our motley and analytically argumentative "vast crowd"... I honestly don't think you have much to worry about, Julie.Julie wrote: I would hate to see people... ignore or reject much of what else is out there in OSA research land.
Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
Does this also encompass the "unruly mob", or-SWS wrote:Given our "vast crowd"...
......are we on our own?
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

No, that's an extreeeemely important part of our "motley flavor".... perhaps even the key ingredient around here!carbonman wrote:Does this also encompass the "unruly mob", or-SWS wrote:Given our "vast crowd"...

Re: Ask Dr. Park About Sleep Apnea
Julie, I went to Dr. Park last week as a 2nd opinion for my deviated septum and inflamed turbinates. He has great enthusisam for the field of OSA. He means well, although perhaps he may be somewhat over-advertised on the web. He does put the current CPAP machines in perspective, by mentioning that I most likely have UARS events (breathing stopping less than 10 seconds), and as of now, most machines do not measure these events. I had an appointment with him and he spent about 45 minutes with me in discussion. He is all for patients being actively involved in their therapy, and encourages it.Julie wrote:The only thing that worries me here is that Dr. Park seems to be cropping up more and more on the forum in one way or another and I would hate to see people beginning to assume that, while he may be very knowledgable, he is some kind of guru, and ignore or reject much of what else is out there in OSA research land.
